Erm,.... Not to rain on the parade, but Floyd's Endless River is the fastest selling LP since 1997,.....with 6000 sales.
    Its all about perspective.
We can rest assured that the manufacture of vinyl is not eating holes in the ozone layer anymore.:D

I'll never buy vinyl but I'm glad that more people are buying it over digital, perhaps it will show somebody what's wrong with buying music where you don't receive anything in physical form for the same price of say... a CD

Yes! Ironic 'that's what indie bands were selling in the late 70s/80s.

The article also mentions that One Direction has reached a billion listens on spotify. Funny how I haven't ever heard a single song by them. (Nor have I ever used spotify for that matter.)

Good news on the vinyl front, it's great to go into my local Fopp and see the new releases on both vinyl and CD sharing the same shelf space.

However, even if CD sales in the UK decrease by the expected 15% again this year, they will still be selling around 50 million units compared to the expected 1.2 million units on vinyl.

It makes no sense as far as I can see that some record shops are almost exclusively vinyl these days.

Our best local independent shop in Edinburgh called Avalanche closed a few months ago (meant to be resurfacing at a different location some point) but the last time I was in, they didn't have a couple of fairly recent releases on CD, but they did have the vinyl. I can't justify paying almost double the cost to own vinyl, I'm fine with CD's so popped off to HMV to pick them up.

I wonder if some independent record shops don't stock CD's on the assumption that people will buy the vinyl instead if that is all they have, when the reality is (at least in my case) they may walk out the shop having bought nothing?

Interesting article from the BBC website,

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-30216638

Note it says in here that Pink Floyd's The Endless River became the fastest-selling vinyl release since 1997.

I must admit although I have a turntable and a lot of old records I can't remember the last time I bought something on vinyl. Hopefully this will be of interest to some of the members on the forum.

I wonder how long it will be before CDs are cool again and having a resurgence?

    Can't see it happen.
Sure boutique CDs will hold their own, and some redbooks & fancy boxsets,
but the other 90% ' (eventually)will end up in charity shops.Sad, very very ...sad.

But listening to "Live" music, one does not receive anything either.

Music is simply "Sound", not inherent to a physical playback media exactly.

Not the same as say an baseball card, compared to a picture of a baseball card
