Holiday Freebies is the keyword. NOTE that this deal is limited to devices running either Windows 8 operating system, or Windows Phones. Appears to be USA only as well.

Three links, all covering the same deal:
    http://www.davescomputertips.com/microsoft-giving-away-100-music-albums-for-the-holidays/
    http://www.pcworld.com/article/2852...-free-selling-box-sets-for-2.html#tk.nl_today
    http://www.cnet.com/news/get-100-fr...=nl.e796&s_cid=e796&ttag=e796&ftag=CAD7dba523

My request for those who jump on this deal, or investigate it further: If someone can find a complete list of all 100 free albums that you could post or link to within this thread, I would really appreciate it. I'm at my parents house this week, and they have super-slow DSL. I can't get the Music Deals app to run in Windows 8 (keeps saying it can't connect to the internet), so I can only see about a dozen of the 100 albums listed on the front page of the Xbox Music app in Windows 8.

Nor can I see the $2 box set selections at all, so if someone can post a full list of all of them (or a series of screenshots, or a link to a page where someone else has compiled the list, or whatever), that would be awesome too.

I have been able to download a single free MP3 album so far (Mumford and Sons, for my wife), which I'm now torturously uploading to my NAS back at home. I'll try to grab more if I can find out what they are (I figure with a full list, I can do searches in the Xbox Music app for specific albums to get to them that way).

Wow. The Stax/Volt complete singles 1959-1968 for only $1.99? I know these are lossy files, but that's still a great deal for anyone who doesn't already own the cd set.

Since I posted that last list, it looks like the numbers are changing. Now the Music Deal app shows only 29 $1.99 boxes, and 51 free albums. Must have reached their quotas on some titles.

Yes they seem to be changing or narrowing the selection. I've picked up a bunch of goodies here tonight for $1.99. It's like Christmas! (literally since this is a holiday deal)

Disappointed to not see some of the box sets listed earlier today.

I went to my Windows 10 Technical Build installation and downloaded what I wanted to downloaded and transferred the music files to my OneDrive to put on my Windows 7 installation.

I just happened to get a Windows 8.1 machine yesterday. I've never used Xbox music before and find the interface more than a little frustrating. It was obvious which albums were still available for free, but I couldn't find any way to get a list of the $1.99 albums. If someone else hadn't posted the list above, I'd have no idea what might be available for $1.99 without looking for various things and then checking the price. I am happy that I got a few things, though, and maybe I'll stumble across more.

You need to download another app. Instructions here: http://www.pcworld.com/article/2852240/microsofts-giving-100-insanely-good-music-albums-away-for-free-selling-box-sets-for-2.html#tk.fb_pc

    Thanks for that.

I know I shouldn't go on a Microsoft bashing rant -- particularly since I have no interest in converting to Apple's overpriced ecosystem -- but is there any logic to forcing someone to use an app that simply lists stuff that, when clicks, opens the app that's already installed in order to look at details or make a purchase?

This morning, I'm still seeing some titles for free or box sets for $1.99, but some of the ones listed above have definitely reverted to full price.

I was sad to encounter the R.E.M. 1982-87 Rarities box set at full price ($25.99?) rather than $1.99, but did grab the latter R.E.M. Rarities (1988-2011?) box set because it was still $1.99. Missed out on the Grateful Dead Complete Studio Albums (back to $99.99) and Bjork Post for free (it's back to $11.99), but did get The Who Quadrophenia Super Deluxe edition and several other already-mentioned albums for free.

I'm still poking around for deals on the horribly-designed Xbox Music app, still hampered by a "Music Deals" app that simply won't load for me.

I think so far I've spent $7.96 and have over 400 MP3s as a result.

Has anyone else found more free albums or $1.99 box sets that aren't listed in this thread? Please list them if you have.

    Craig.

nope I also noticed them falling off the list - question can I burn them to CD after I download them ?

My understanding is that they're DRM-free, meaning once you have the MP3s you can do anything you want with them (burn to CD, save to hard drive, backup to another hard drive, upload to your cloud services, etc.).

In case you haven't noticed, sometimes there are two listings for a box set. One of them will either be full price or indicate it isn't available, and the other will indicate the $1.99 price.

When I was looking at the Music Deals app last night, some of the deals indicated they were expiring this weekend while others indicated they were valid for more than another week.

I was generally reading (such as at the links in Post #1) that these deals would be available through this coming weekend, so it's a bummer that they're actually pulling out the rug from under some of these offers several days early.

I wish I could know what the 80 or so other free albums are/were - i.e., the ones not yet listed anywhere such as in this thread. Anyone out there willing to list some of the other free albums listed in Music Deals, so those of us unable to get the app to work can search for them directly in the Xbox Music app?

Here are the ones I'm aware of that were free at some point during this promotion (NOTE: some of these may no longer be free):

    Night Visions by Imagine Dragons
    The Joshua Tree by U2
Let it Bleed by The Rolling Stones
808s and Heartbreak by Kanye West
Catch a Fire by Bob Marley & The Wailers
Born to Die – The Paradise Edition by Lana Del Ray
Quadrophenia (Super Deluxe) by The Who (this one was still free within the last hour)
    Unplugged by Eric Clapton
Tha Carter III by Lil Wayne
    Sublime by Sublime
Post by Bjork (this is no longer free despite still being prominently displayed in the "Holiday Freebies" section of the Xbox Music's Explore page)
    Sweet Talker by Jessie J
    Recovery by Eminem
My Head Is An Animal by Of Monsters And Men
Come Away With Me by Norah Jones
    Babel by Mumford and Sons
    Up! by Shania Twain
Can't Slow Down (Deluxe Edition) by Lionel Ritchie
    Lights by Ellie Goulding
    Graduation by Kanye West
When The Sun Goes Down by Selena Gomez

Thanks for posting the full free albums list, guys!!

Was able to grab a number of those albums that were still listed as free, including several that my wife (only) was interested in, so I made her happy. :)

The non-album tracks on the deluxe edition of Weezer Blue Album will be a nice companion for the MFSL SACD I recently got.
