It would have to be David Bowie's 300th compilation "Nothing Has Changed.

You can't get enough of the same songs... same songs... same words.

I love The Empty Hearts debut album. It is the one that hasn't been filed in the collection yet and sits within easy reach by the stereo.

Well it does have one new song!

I need to think about this and right now I'd lean towards U2. But I just got the new Simple Minds and it is very good upon first listen.

I'd pick Too Bright by Perfume Genius right now. Close call between that and the St Vincent album.

Chuck Prophet 'Night Surfer' is my album of the year (to date), with an honourable mention to Chris Mills 'Alexandria'.

Bob's Basement Tapes box is the reissue of the year (or decade???).

Fantastic, and one of my heroes; always great live. He’s the singer and guitarist of The Clean, whom you might’ve heard of. The new one (End Times Undone), David Kilgour & The Heavy Eights, Sugar Mouth, and Here Come the Cars are all excellent, IMO. A vaguely psychedelic (sometimes pastoral) and slightly more muscular take on Velvets/Modern Lovers/Feelies-style motorik. -E

Robert Plant's album got a lot of play here at home, and still makes it back into the rotation.

Yea, thanks for that, I always seem to miss hearing about new David Kilgour records, but one of my favorites too, especially that David Kilgour & The Heavy Eights one you mentioned from around '97. I'll definitely be on the lookout for the new one.

Right now, I'd probably go with either Brian Jonestown Massacre Revelation, seems it is the one I listen to most this year and playing again right now, or the pretty great Hundred Waters The Moon Rang Like a Bell, which may really be the one I've listened to most, or Sharon Van Etten Are We There, probably the one I respect and like the most, and the one I also rate highest but don't listen quite as often. A few other very good ones still hanging around at about that same level, so my top 5 would likely all be about the same rating at this point.

Just gave in to pressure and bought War on Drugs. Also Hurrah for the Riff Raff. Any thoughts?

  18. For me an older artist has risen to the top this year:

    Terms of My Surrender-John Hiatt

Number two is Young athe Giant's Mind Over Matter

Film of the year: tie between Gone Girl and Boyhood. Haven't seen The Imitation Game or Birdman yet so that could change. I'd also no ate Guardians of The Galaxy a fun popcorn movie although most people miss that it owes a bit of a debt to Thr Fifth Element.

I found Hotel Budapest more enjoyable than most Wes Anderson films but I dislike all of his films that I have seen. The way he writes and stages his scenes bug me.

Great right out of the box and, like you, I keep playing it.

Agree with some of the critiques of Beck's Morning Phase. It is the opposite of a "grower." The more you play it, the less you want to hear it. I'm afraid if I search my past posts, I am on the record digging it.

Several that have already been mentioned by Suzanne Vega, Leonard Cohen & Roseanne Cash.

I would add Who Loves Ya Baby by Ian Prowse and the self itled debut by The Common Linnets

But if I had to pick just one, I think it would be Dizzy Heights by Neil Finn.
