I have this version of "Elizabeth Reed". I think I'll listen to it now. I don't have Seconds Out with the live "Supper's Ready", but good point about those titles. I need to get that one before next Thanksgiving.

Great song, but there's another song ("You Should Have Listened to Al") on the same side with it.

Yes, and it's always been one of my favorites and always will be. It's a rare 1-song side show that doesn't include it.

That one counts because it's over 12 minutes, just like some album sides. If it were only around 7 minutes, it wouldn't qualify, but since it's over 12 (like the Mother's 12:17 "Return of the Son of Monster Magnet" and Grand Funk's live 12:10 "Into the Sun"), it's not really cheating as long as it at one time filled a whole side of a 12-inch album or single.

I would like to nominate the Sergio Mendes epic recording of "The Circle Game" (not the folk-tune) that was found on side two of the Brasil '77 album, PRIMAL ROOTS. At 18 minutes and change, it "nearly" fills the whole side, but is followed with a segued reprise of the main theme from "Promise of A Fisherman" which started the album on side one. Since it's seamless and only adds a little more than a minute, I think it should qualify.

On modern CDs, a bonus track follows, but that shouldn't interfere with the way the original LP was configured.

A less-common Allman Brothers track, a side-long version of "In Memory of Elizabeth Reed" from Wipe the Windows, Check the Oil . . .No kidding, check it out. A nicely jazzy feel that's perfect for the holidays.

Thanks. Checked it out and loved it - a real good groove they get into with multiple layers.

Not that there is a revelation of good and evil on your dinner table
But Supper's Ready seems the appropriate title

    Walking across the dining room
I feel a hunger coming on
    Sitting beside you
    Mash potatos, pies
As the smells of basted beast
    Gain in my senses
    My tongue begins to quiver
    With such a grand delight

    And it's
Hey babe with your guardian eyes so blue
Hey babe your Supper's Waiting for you.....

If your mother-in-law STILL won't leave after playing "Life The The Lions" and "A Plague Of Lighthouse Keepers", try putting in The Residents "Third Reich And Roll"- both sides are side-long suites. Don't worry, there's nothing Nazi about it beyond the cover.

    Enjoy!

Great as this is, it doesn't count - side 2 starts with Hiroshima.

    Healing - Todd Rundgren
Achilles, Agony and Ecstasy In Eight Parts - Manowar

You still can. It is almost 18 minutes long. I listen to it fairly often (just not on Thanksgiving).

That's a great one! Heavy Edgard Varese influence. According to John Kay's liner notes, it surprised both the audience and the band when the free-form jam turned into "The Pusher." 21:36

Fantastic album! On at least 2 occasions, that whole album graced the one-song sideshow. Other double albums with one track on each side: Tales from Topographic Oceans (Yes) and Wendy (Walter) Carlos' Sonic Seasonings.

  24. Absolutely! After all, if nothing else, you don't get many opportunities to hear a piece of music by a UK anarcho-punk band that might make you think of Foxtrot. :)
