I disagree Krupa was much older in that clip then Rich and still had it. Gene Krupa was the first real superstar drummers with his own big band.
Back in the 30s and 40s Krupa ruled!

  3. Sorry guys but most rock drummers don't do a lot for me. I thought Blondie had a good drummer and Copeland is quite adept. Kenwood Dennard impressed me on Brand X's Livestock.
    Here's some triplets I dig...

    Max Roach,
    Elvin Jones
    Tony Williams

    Roy Haynes
    Art Blakey
    'Papa' Jo Jones

    Jack DeJonette
    Paul Motian
    Peter Erskine

    Philly Joe Jones
    Pete LaRoca
    Mitch Mitchell

    Benny Benjamin
    Bernard 'Pretty' Purdie
    Clyde Stubblefield

Whichever three drummers Motown had on hand at any given moment.

Man, four pages and no love for Bill Ward? Listen to Children of the Grave and get hypnotized! Was amazing until Ozzy left.

Didn't realize until the last few years what a beast Dave Lombardo is.

And a guy I always loved to WATCH beat the s**t out of a kit back in the day was Tommy Lee. Sounded good too!

I agree with Motown and Jazz drummers. I'll be politically incorrect and put on "my Grant Hat" and say the black Jazz, Funk, Soul Drummers are some of the best. But I grew up in stoner territory in the 70's-80's so my favorites came to be rock drummers.

Bonham could play trickier time-signatures than Moon. Phil Collins could play tricky time-signatures and could stay in time better than Bonham---though surely with a lower BAL.

I'll go with Ringo, Keith Moon, and Mo Tucker, but I hate to leave out Charlie Watts and Jim Keltner.

Hate to leave out Charlie Watts. Butch Trucks and Jaimoe from the Allman Brothers band are very underrated. Ric Lee from Ten Years After is often overlooked as well.
