IIRC, the label is silk screened...no corrosive adhesive.

Yes, they are. I bought one last month. You wouldn't know they were MOD unless you noticed the disc color.

Nope. Not owned by Columbia. These are Ted Healy and his Stooges at MGM. Add the film Soup To Nuts and you have a running start into the first Columbia shorts.

MOD = Made on Demand, DVD-R
So does that mean it's basically a bootleg? Will it be sold in stores?

not a boot, but just a moneymaker for the studio... they are sold direct on Warner Archives and on Amazon...there may be other place but, I never looked for them. Stumbled onto the over at Amazon. Others also offer them as well..MGM comes to mind.

The Bowery Boys releases are MOD's. I won't buy them either.

The three shorts which should be color are, however nothing has been done to the print of Hello Pop. Chain scratches along the left of the screen and scratches and lint marks abound. But if this is all we have I'll take it. Same goes for the two color Technicolor print of Curly's Roast Beef and Movies. Did they do more than just clean the film?

And yet, Vol. 4 weren't MOD , but real DVD's (in my case). Which raises the question, "why weren't my first three Bowery Boys DVD purchases the real deal?"

Agreed. We're lucky that it even exists. I'll take a few flaws over it still being lost or gone forever.

Couldn't resist. Ordered the Shemp set and the Stooge set yesterday. Almost went for the set with Fatty Arbuckle too.
So I dropped about 40 bucks...

If Sony did the transfers in HD which I'd guess was done, I think it is a possibility. Although that would mean the same transfer mistakes would carry over to the Blu-rays. As I understand the first 4 or 5 sets sold very well as did the DVD box. A complete Blu-ray box would be the most likely scenario since very few will pay full Blu-ray money for the dead/fake Shemp or Besser era's.

Of course this could all very well be wishful thinking on my part but I hope not.

Oh, after 7 years it is amazing to see a non-Beatles thread on this forum that still has legs.

I am currently watching the Shemp set and if you a Shemp fan (and do not have a problem with MOD DVDs)this is awesome! OK if Shemp was in the first short I blinked and missed him. But by the third one Shemp is front and center even if he is not the star, and he is often the best thing in the film.
Have no idea about Joe Palooka shorts as I have never seen them. I am now looking forward to them.

Wasn't it said Moe Howard had the original Beatles hair cut - or rather the Beatles had Moe's.

Vol 1 is worth it just for the Arbuckle comeback material. A glimpse as to what might have been had he not suffered that fatal heart attack at only 46. Shemp's stuff on Vol 1 is icing on the cake.

For those who may not know here are 2 things to look for:
Jimmy Stewart's film debut in "Art Trouble" on Vol 1.
"A Peach of a Pair" on Vol 2 inspired the Stooges "An Ache in Every Stake"

I thought it looked better than expected. That eye makeup they're wearing makes them look like raccoons. Got both vol. 2 and 3.
