If you're into bad Christmas specials, I'll recommend the 1991 special The Christmas Tree. If you want an idea of how fascinatingly dreadful and awkward it is, it's often compared to such classics as The Room and Birdemic.

  4. Most disturbing is that I see fewer and fewer Christmas specials being made these days. Outside of four or five classic animated specials like Rudolph that constantly get repeated every year, the pipeline of new specials is drying up. Pixar is making a new Toy Story-themed one this year, which is about to get broadcast. Prep & Landing was a good new one from a couple of years ago.

We have had quite a few forgettable ones over the last few years, mostly based (and meant to capitalize on) animated movie franchises (Ice Age, Madagascar, Kung Fu Panda, Shrek The Halls...). Even more forgettable was the low-rated Lady Gaga/Muppets special last year. Elf On A Shelf from 2011 was passable, I guess.

This year NBC is giving us the animated "How Murray Saved Christmas", and a stop motion style "Elf" special, with Buddy being voiced by Jim Parsons (Big Bang Theory). I'll reserve my judgement on those, as well as Lifetime's "Grumpy Cat" special.

I'm still waiting for the "Breaking Bad Holiday Good-Time Fun Machine" to be released on DVD.

That was an actual show, right...? I didn't just dream that one, did I??

I can't call it a favorite...I've never seen it. But seeing Eric Burdon and The Animals in acting roles might
be worth the price of admission. Can anyone recommend this? Apparently the only DVD copies out there are very
poor black-and-white transfers from a color film, which is presumably lost.

    Seasonal bump.....

Was nice to see Emmet Otter's Jug-Band Christmas back on TV (ABC Family) this year.

Too bad the widescreen conversion (the old zoom and crop) made it look awful. They did retain Kermit's intro/outro though.....

Last year we watched every Christmas special that aired in 1968 we could find from the Elvis Comeback '68 to The Grinch. I would love to find the 1968 Red Skelton Christmas episode as that one has eluded us.

Not really a Christmas special (which is probably why I like it), but "The Snowman" is one one of my favorites:

I saw The Littles Angel when I was in single digits. The scene where the little boy comes back to Earth, but is unrecognized by his mother, has always stayed with me. The moment when he hugs her and she freezes, not knowing why, disturbed me as a child.

I see that J.T. was mentioned previously in this thread. Totally sad, but still one of my favorites.

You know, I've had a copy of the Star Wars Holiday Special for two years now that I still haven't been able to psych myself up for watching. Maybe next year, after the herbal jazz ciggies are legalized in Canada...

Nothing justifies Wookie porn. Nothing makes it palatable. (Oh God, Julia WHY??)
