    Thought you guys might be interested in this;

    "....
    Re-mastered at Abbey Road Studios from the original master tapes by Matt Johnson and packaged in a lavish 12” box, this vinyl only release includes an authentic reproduction of the 1983 release on 180g vinyl, plus an extra 12” gatefold vinyl of alternative versions and remixes.

    For the free digital copy, the re-mastered audio has then been dubbed from new vinyl test pressings recorded from Matt’s original 1982 Thorens TD-147 gramophone player using patent ‘Dubbed-From-Disc’ technology, obtainable via a download code contained within the boxset."

    Cheers for this, a great album of its time. Arguably ahead if it's time.

    Matt Johnson's idea

    Erm - don't know what happened there.

    I was going to say;

    I hope this isn't Matt Johnson's idea of an "April fool".

    Doesn't seem so - it's on Amazon for its June release.

    Love the idea of selling a needle-drop from the test-pressing. Has anyone else come up with this idea (gimmick?) before?

    Yep - I used to make cassettes for my friends with "The Colour of Spring" on one side and "Soul Mining" on the other (from my Systemdek IIX 900, to a Yamaha KX-250) in the late 1980's.

    They all wore the tapes out.

    [ETA - the tapes were always labelled "The The" on one side and "Talk Talk" on the other. Heh.

    [ETA 2] actually, it was a IIX (with the 'viscous bearing' and RB300 arm) - I got the IIX 900 a few years later.

    Matt Johnson should have called this "The The The box set."

    So when you refer to it in conversation, you'd say, "I just got my copy of The 'The The The box set.'" :p

    My copy of the LP has the cover with the man with hammers cover. Is that the UK release?

    Apologies for seeming to ignore you, I went over to the thread johnnyyen pointed me to.

    Yes - I'm pretty sure that's the cover of the LP I bought in the UK c. 1985 (which I don't have anymore), as distinct from the cigarette-smoking lady on the CD's I bought later.

    My UK copy, bought on release week, had the cigarette smoking lady on the cover. I always understood that the cover 2 posts up was just for the US.

    I tried to draw a poster for a Belle and Sebastian gig, but I left too much space between 'Belle' and 'And' and 'And' and 'Sebastian'.

    A teacher compared her students' use of the perfect and the pluperfect and found that Sally, where John had had 'had', had had 'had had'.

    Back to the The The release, wasn't that screaming man image used for the sleeve of the bonus 'Perfect' 12" included with the original album release?

    Answering my own question: no. The 'Perfect' 12" included in the original album package did have a screaming man on it, but he was accompanied by a couple of hands and a ferocious-looking rose.

    Listening to my original press and I'd imagine it would be hard to top :)
