Where George's work from the 1970's and 1980's succeeded (specifically, American Graffiti, Star Wars and Raiders) was his vision and grandiosity: macro.

Where his turn of the millennium work has failed is due to lack of vision need to get bogged down in the minutia: micro.

George is a dreamer. He's not a script writer.

  2. No, but when the exposition is so clunky as to pretty much ruin the final product, it hurts. I thought Lucas has the seeds of a good series, but he needed to outsource the writing from his pool of ideas and spend his time on execution of things. Also, he needed to give an editor much more say in the final cut.

I felt that the story could've been done a little bit better, as far as the prequels go. For example, all of the political stuff in the first one made it somewhat confusing. I actually like the way that Palpatine came into power, manipulating everything. It just seems like it could've been done in a easier way, if that make sense.

And Anakin going to the dark side; I like the fact that part of him went to the dark side because he loved his wife so much; it still seemed sort of strange that he would be so quick to do it, especially when he'd been trained most of his life to be a Jedi, and all of a sudden he's just like 'Ok, let's go kill all of the little kids'.

I was actually underwhelmed by that trailer. However I like Abram's Star Trek films plus Super 8 so I'm actually looking forward to the new movie. This is what I've been waiting for since 1983. Sequels rather than prequels.

Care to elaborate, or are you trying to sound snarky with your use of hyperbole without any support?

Personally, I think it makes sense not to show the original trilogy characters in a teaser trailer. It builds up more anticipation for their reveal in the actual movie to leave a bit of mystery in that regard.

I have a hipster-ish friend who does this. When I challenge her to articulate her opinion, she gets pissy.

The trailer does a good job of not revealing much of anything, we know there will be conflict/action, beyond that use your imagination until more is revealed. I really hope they don't release a 3-4 minute trailer where the entire story is laid out beforehand, don't spoil it in advance, I hate when they do that.

The teaser trailer did it's job - it got people talking about a movie that won't be released until December of next year. Showed just enough for people to love it or complain about it and want to see more.

^was that Luke in that trailer?
an outrageous idea/guess of the story/plot of the 3 sequels.
Luke is drawn to the dark side and it's his son and the previous OT characters who rescues/slays him.

I prefer the other one. Too many scenes takes from Jedi, which ties it back to Lucas in my mind.
