None of the above for me.

If we're asking strictly about favorite 'rock' acts, I'd rank the Beach Boys, Byrds, Television/Voidoids, Love, VU/Reed, Big Star, Verve, Spiritualized, MC5 and especially Van Morrison (surely he counts if Neil does) above anybody on the OP's list with the possible exception of Neil. If we expand outward to include pop/R&B/country acts, they'd be crowded out some more. And if you include jazz acts, I doubt there's anybody on the OP's list that cracks my top 50, Beatles included.

From the list, Beatles, Stones, Bowie, Hendrix, Pink Floyd and Neil Young, though the last 3 are borderline; definitely top 20, however (as are a few others here).

Top tens can be very difficult. I normally think in terms of bands, male singers and female singers.

My best try today would be:

Bands - Beatles, Blur, Pink Floyd, Doors, Moody Blues, Cream, Bee Gees, Zero 7..........
Male singers - John Lennon, David Bowie, Elton John, Eric Clapton, Elvis Presley, Bob Marley
Female singers - Stevie Nicks, Kate Bush, Melanie, Joni Mitchell, Shirley Bassey, Janis Joplin, Aretha Franklin......
Can't quite categorise - Jimi Hendrix, Frank Zappa.........

    The Grateful Dead
    Bob Marley
Neil Young (with and without Crazy Horse)
    The Clash
    Van Morrison
    Creedence Clearwater Revival
    Al Green

Bubbling just past the top ten: Elvis, Muddy Waters, Chuck Berry, Johnny Cash, Aretha, The Who, The Band, Bruce Springsteen, Prince, The Go-Betweens, The Smiths, R.E.M., The Beach Boys, James Brown, Marvin Gaye, Dusty Springfield, Bobbie Gentry, Radiohead, George Jones, U2, Talking Heads, Led Zeppelin, Roy Orbison

p.s. Something about the framework of this poll doesn't give enough elbow room for music by African-American artists — blues, R&B, soul, funk, hip-hop.... IMO

Beatles, Bowie, and Elvis Presley. None in my top 2, though. That's if we are only considering rock artists - Numerous Blues Artists would populate my top 10. Van Halen and Steely Dan are close, probably top 20. Stones, Stevie Wonder and Hendrix are top 30, probably. A few others there are top 75.

Hats off to the OP for such an ambitious thread.

You're bound to put off fans of _________ for omitting them/him/her.

Myself, I am perplexed why Topo Gigio was not listed....

Beatles/Stones/Who/Zeppelin/Floyd/Dylan/Neil Young/Steely Dan/McCartney/Lennon from the list. As far as my actual top ten goes (on most days) since I include the solo stuff in with "Beatles" anyway replace solo McCartney/Lennon with The Band and Genesis.

I don't think of things in a top ten frame of mind. I checked the Beatles and PF anyway.
