Daltrey was coming up on 40 and felt that his tenure as rock's best-looking frontman was in danger.

Pete was tired of it and disbanded the band.

And Kenney just got tired of waiting for them. So as the story goes, he met Paul Rogers in a nightclub in London and decided to put a band together called The Law. They then set the music world on fire, and as they say....the rest is history.

Considering that both Pete and Roger's solo careers had stalled a decade after the band "broke up" (if not before) in the early 80s, the real question s/b: why did it take them so long to officially regroup for "Endless Wire"? You can consider that a rhetorical question.

  6. They realized it was a lot easier and more lucrative repackaging and selling all their previous material umpteen number of times rather than trying to produce anything new.

It only took him 40+ years to figure that out?

I feel very fortunate to have seen Pete, Roger and John with Zack, as I never got to see them with Keith.

The odd thing is that when they at first disbanded, they said that they would continue recording but never tour again. In fact, they did many tours but no records until 2006!

The Who donated all the proceed's of the instant live's to charity.

The important thing now though is that The Who are back strong and making new music.

If you're referring to Endless Wire, then yeah, I agree. It had some good material on it, but lyrically some of it was offenceful.

I was surprised to discover that the Who still existed in 1981, when MTV was showing the videos from Face Dances. I was just a kid, and didn't know much about them, but I had seen Pete Townshend on a few magazine covers and assumed he was a solo star, and that the Who had ended when Keith Moon died. Actually, for a while I thought the drummer in the Face Dances videos was Keith Moon, and that they might be old videos. But by early 1982 I knew what was going on and had become a big fan. Pretty soon It's Hard was released and then the Farewell Tour was on.

    That's why I said Maybe.
Personally, I think Face Dances is better than Who Are You.

The 1982 and 1989 shows I saw were wonderful. I saw other shows as well, but my point is that they were a really great band with the best material, and it's hard to screw up when you have that string of material and a crack band playing it.

Listen to Eminence Front on the '89 live album, it really does rock in a beautiful way. I can See for Miles I think was done on that tour as well. Join Together, first tour to perform that one like the bit song.

Got to meet and chat with Pete for a half hour on that tour as well. I had a good time at the show in LA as well as my legendary meeting of a rock god.

There has never been any mystery. They broke up because Pete wanted to end the band. They got back together as a working band in '99 because Pete wanted to. He pretty much calls the shots.

I think they broke up because they just weren't any good any more.
