I use a Theta Chroma 396 with the rare HDCD upgrade.

    What's in YOUR rack?

A TEAC D/70 which is eight years old. It has/had an option for HDCD upgrade but as I don't and never have had HDCDs it doesn't matter!

I have a more modern DAC (a T+A DAC8 in my headphone system) so I could compare the two but I'm not going to.

I've never heard the Teac personally, but I've read some nice reviews about it.

You may HDCD discs without knowing it. My cdp has an HDCD indicator that lights up with certain discs even though the disc has no HDCD designation.

Was very impressed by the onboard DAC in Sony's TA-F630ESD amp. Lovely sounding amp.

The DAC in my Linn Majik CD player sounds fantastic.

Wish it had digital in, though.

Theta Gen. Va 24/96 edition with upgrade company mods.

I love the old brand and it still beats everything I have A/B tested against it (oppo 105, Sony 5400, Transporter, etc)

My MSB Link Dac III has remained in daily use along with the Monarchy anti-jitter box since 2000. I haven't compared anything newer since this still sounds great to me. I'd still go ahead and buy the separate power unit if I knew where to find one.

I have one with the HDCD and another upgrade I can't recall right now plus the powerbase 1000. Fed by an Audio Alchemy DTI Pro 32 - which is similar to the Monarchy you use - all from a squeezebox in the basement. I really dig how this DAC sounds.
