How long until Katie Perry and Taylor Swift are eligible?
If Jann could, Taylor would be in it already.

It really doesn't matter who gets in because at this point it really means nothing.

The Cramps should be in before the Stray Cats. THEY made rockabilly popular again.

They deserve it way more than Green Day. That's why the hall of fame is a joke. The Ramones are in (deservedly so) so why do we need Green Day? The Ramones were the real deal. Green Day, not so much.
Thin Lizzy were influential in many ways that Green Day was and is not.

Yeah, I figured you were wanting others to chime in :)

While The Monkees aren't in the RRHOF (but should be!), at least one member is in there "by default"... Michael Nesmith is in by association since the Paul Butterfield Blues Band (and previous inductees Run-DMC) recorded his song "Mary, Mary" and one of last year's inductees, Linda Ronstadt, recorded his song "Different Drum" (and IIRC "Some of Shelly's Blues" too)... Yeah, I know it's a stretch and I am saying it somewhat tongue-in-cheek, but they're making in-roads whether the HOF realizes it or not ;)

I don't remember many Cramps videos in the MTV top 20 countdown. ;) And for the record I don't think the Stray Cats qualify, but Setzer alone for the things he's done.

Wow, that's a shock, even for me. No question, I'd vote for all three plus the five I mentioned earlier.

Odd. I've NEVER even heard of the Cramps. The Stray Cats however, were pretty famous in the early 80's and were produced by the great Dave Edmunds.

The Cramps are just iconic in my listening circles and always have been...and they were produced by the equally great Alex Chilton.

Yeah, in the US, whatever mainstream popular life rockabilly enjoyed in the early 1980s, it was all Stray Cats. The Cramps had no mainstream/popular profile at all...

I think eventually they'll have to do this. It would be cool to get Cheap Trick in with a handful of early 90's standouts like Pearl Jam and Soundgarden, or at least get them in with Foo Fighters....great show.

  19. I think both are overdue and its too soon for Green Day (not chronologically but artistically)

  20. Wow. I heard about them quite a bit particularly when I lived in L.A.

  21. This. All overdue along with ELO and Chicago.

  22. Better yet why is Jann Wenner in?

ELO - rock and roll? What about New York Dolls? Mott the Hoople? MC5? They rocked the joint.

  24. Thanks, but I have a dictionary.

That went out the window ages ago when the first non rock act was added. I wouldn't disagree with your other choices either.

When I last checked ELO is listed under that heading as well.

Wenner founded the R&R Hall of Fame, donated lots of time and money to it, and also had one of the most important rock-oriented magazines of the last 45 years. I don't have a problem with him being in the Hall, but I do have a problem when his personal beefs keep significant artists out.

I dislike a lot of pioneering artists like The NY Dolls, Lou Reed, and a lot of new wave/punk rock groups, but I would argue they're also important and deserving of inclusion just because of history. There's a huge difference between being objective, understanding historical importance, and then your own personal taste. I also have a big problem with the Hall including lots and lots of artists that I don't think are "rock & roll" at all, particularly those who are pop and R&B artists. I would be just as opposed to putting (say) McCartney into the "R&B Hall of Fame" (if there was one) because he's not an R&B artist.
