Great appearance, and she looked and sounded fantastic. The only screw-up to me was that the director missed a close-up of the sax player on the solo, which p!ssed me off. Everything else was terrific.

Maybe that shot would have shown her getting on top of the piano and spoiled the reveal?

What a voice! Can't believe she still sounds so good. She's 76 years old. Incredible.

I always liked this video, which purports to be the first time that she had sung "Christmas" since 1963. If you read the description of the video, it's a wonderful story.

I'm not a big letterman fan but I always love the jay Thomas / Darlene love show. Jays story is like your grandma telling the same 3 stories every visit.

She was GREAT! That was one of the last traditions I had left. It wasn't Christmas till she performed on Letterman. What a voice, what a great song.

I am going to miss this tradition but in a way glad to hear that she is shutting it down and not offering this to someone else.
Thank you Darlene Love for brightening Christmas for the last 28? years. What a run.

Time to go see if my "VCR" worked properly. :)

I believe this will repeat next week on Christmas Night, in case anyone missed it. I work for a service that closed captions the show, and it's either this episode or another from November scheduled for Christmas.

:agree: We should not dissect a performance like that. It was incredible.

Fine show, but what was with the Pink Flamingos / Divine getup on Darlene?

Pretty obvious pre-record but still great to see and very sad to see this tradition come to an end.

Her vocals were live. They always are on that show as evidence of Aretha's performance earlier in the year. Darlene is still that good & I can't believe there have been negative feedback on a beautiful tradition & a beautiful artist.
