Pretenders multi-disc deluxe reissues on Edsel

If I order this from UK the dvds will be region specific, right?

such horrible quality, I keep waiting for one of the Bond releases to have the video. My VHS copy recorded in '87 cant look worse than this copy

 

So you can buy the individual titles sperate. What is special for the box or there isn;t anything?

 

I actually have a United Artists tape of the If There Was A Man video. Now if I only had a U-Matic machine to watch it with.

New mastering? Or same as the last Rhino re-issues?

 

Regarding the music, aside from one or two minor demo/b-side tracks not included on either the old box set or the 2 disc Rhino releases from 2006, I see no reason to again re-purchase the Edsel releases for the first two albums other than more video and live clips on the accompanying dvds. Also disappointing for Pretenders 2, the Santa Monica show (which I saw) has the same incomplete tracklist as the Rhino release and is still missing Mystery Achievement, Space Invader, Bad Boys Get Spanked and Tattooed Love Boys from that show.

I still have to catch up and buy the SACDs for the first two albums!

 

The Santa Monica set is the same as the Star Fleet radio promo LP that came out around the release of Pretenders II. It does contain Bad Boys, also on the Rhino, but does not include the other tracks.

 

Makes perfect sense why they'd block it. They probably still have quite a few of those remastered versions, loaded with bonus tracks, out in the marketplace.

 

Last Of The Independents belongs on that list....wonderful end to end, imo.

 

The Pretenders had one of the greatest debuts in rock-n-roll history. Maybe that was hard to better, for them? I'm in for the first three at least.

 

I bet this comes out in the US in some form. I can't see it not happening.

 

there will always be exceptions but music DVDs (as part of box sets, for example) always seem to be region 0 in my experience

i.e. they are not region locked. Of course, you'll need to check but I reckon you should be OK

I just purchased another Edsel set from 2012. The DVDs included are "No Regional restrictions" NTSC discs.

Judging by forum threads and majority of comments. .. no. But I suppose there are few who like them especially for the 2nd bonus disc.

 

I am in the minority and like the Edsels and the recent Universal versions of the early albums.

I locked in the Amazon.uk preorder prices for the Pretenders discs I want, I have lots of time to change my mind. I do not need a box and poster.

 

Bonus material is essential. I rarely listen to the lps anymore, they were so overplayed.
Any material of any type from James Honeyman Scott will get my coin, I don't care if it sounds like Springsteen's Magic.

 

Then I wait for a major pricedrop.

Remember the Beat/English Beat reissues from a few years back. Rhino came up with a different re-release strategy over here in the USA.

 

Yes, in general, if a music video includes movie footage, then the movie studio usually blocks release from a record label package (there have been exceptions).

 

I suppose they are afraid it would eat into sales although as long as they have been on the market, you'd think they would realize most people who would buy the Rhino have already done so.

 

Are you talking about the Shout reissues? I liked the Shout reissues. Missing a couple of tracks but relatively inexpensive...
