My first 33 RPM LP was three, since I got them for my birthday all at once:

    "Woodstock"
    Grateful Dead, "Workingman's Dead"
    Jimi Hendrix, "Band of Gypsies"

My first CD came decades later, as I was dragged kicking and screaming into the medium (I have yet to recover). I have no idea what it was.
Never bough 45s, except the more recent jazz LP reissues mastered at 45RPM. I think the first one there might have been Eric Dolphy, "Out To Lunch"

I bought three 45's in 1957, for my 1st purchase, at a local A&P; "Buzz Buzz Buzz" by The Hollywood Flames, "Honeycomb" by Jimmy Rodgers and "Diana" by Paul Anka.
I bought my 1st LP in 1959 - "The Everly Brothers' Best"
I really can't remember my 1st CD. Weird.

It was a single on the harvest label in 1969 (I was 4) by Swedish Ola & the janglers, "Let's dance" which managed to get onto Billboard hot 100. The singer dabbled in a lot of things later on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ola_Håkansson.
One of the other musicians later became a very popular radio DJ: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Claes_af_Geijerstam
I think he won the Swedish eurovision song contest the year before ABBA and Waterloo, with a tune including the at the time controversial lyric: "your boobs are like swallows mating" (my own translation). ;)

First LP: Don't remember. Probably some very early Bowie. Maybe 1971. Got mostly singles early on. T.rex amongst others.

First CD: Avalon or Love over gold in 1983, probably a tie.

The first albums I received, as best I can remember, were the Back To The Future soundtrack and Van Halen 1984, both on cassette.

Andy Smith .....Like a good pinch of snuff......

Yep.....fairly sure this one's been covered - but always interesting to read.
Mine: Blue Mink's 'Banner Man'. Still love it to this day. Had loads of records before that of course - but they were all bought for me. This was the first I can recall buying with my pocket money.

Enjoy Yourself by The Jacksons and Car Wash by Rose Royce, at the Sears record department, January of 1977. Hooked on 45's ever since and have not lost the fascination yet.
