No... but having to see, The Osmonds, David Cassidy & Bay City Rollers live, in my youth, has probably damaged me.

NO. I used to feel embarrassed for listening to female pop artists when I was a kid, and that was just ridiculous. Listen to whatever you want and who cares what other people think!

It's not nearly as strange as the amount of middle aged women that listen to One Direction.

The vast majority of the music I listen to is by women. I just seem to prefer hearing women's voices.

Another for listen to what you want, but with a caveat--I'd expect the exact same tolerance for those who don't enjoy "girly pop." I don't listen to any of those artists voluntarily--I have to when my daughter is in the car with me, but no, I don't like any of their music. I also don't like the music of current young "boy pop" stars. There are plenty of woman vocalists I like, but none of them fall under the "girly pop" umber-ella ella ella ella. That's my taste. Like all of you, I listen to what I want, and I except the same respect that I would give to someone who likes different music than I do. I'm not judging you, so don't judge me. Also, why do all these women people like have to be attractive physically?

It doesn't matter. Isn't that what we call "guilty pleasures"? We all have those.
It all boils down to a person's taste in music, not his age or gender.

I think it could be a visual thing. I find myself listening to She and Him and Lana Del Rey quite a bit.

    Points to own avatar picture....drools....

Anyway, to answer the original post...hell no it isn't weird.

Music is good music whether its sung/played by a male or female. If it pleases ones ears....then one will like it. Simple as that. People make things too complicated.

If I can be 100% candid, I think there's a lot of social pressure for men to not be "out" about liking female pop singers. I remember what it was like in Jr. High and High School. The same social pressure was amplified if a boy liked a male artist associated with appealing to girls.

A lot of it is wrapped up in social messages about masculinity.

My daughter is really into the pop music scene, and especially One Direction. One day she borrowed my phone, and used it to watch and comment on youtube videos of One Direction. When I got it back, my email inbox was more than 20 messages. It was evenly divided between fan girls, and boys invading the thread to proclaim that they're faggots, and girls who like their music are stupid bitches and have no taste. It was really ugly. And it took several days before it died down.

I guarantee you there are boys in her class who secretly like One Direction (and Katy Perry, and Taylor Swift, and Lady Gaga). The chances of them admitting it is somewhere between slim and none, and slim just left town.

To borrow a phrase, it gets better. But it doesn't disappear.

Sometimes it is exhausting dealing with a stubborn child who has a high opinion of herself. But I'll take it every day and twice on Sunday.

It's 2014 can we quit holding on to gender roles especially in regards to what kind of music we should feel comfortable listening to. The times are a changin' and I'm glad I can sing Blondie at the top of my lungs at the record store I work at without getting mocked by customers

  17. There are some dumb responses, but this is not a dumb poll IMO. It's informative, yet somehow disturbing, that there are a number of "yes" and "it's OK if you're alone" responses.

What about male musicians that sound like females?

    Awesome. I busted out laughing.

Is it "strange" for me to want to sleep with female musicians? ;)

Every music man's dream. I've always had a fantasy about Nancy Wilson.

No. Silliest poll question ever. And around here, that's saying something.

    No question about that!

That being said, I'm blasting out Taylor's Swift's new one when I'm in the car. I love her new album and not ashamed to say say. "Shake it up"!

Since responses are publicly visible, some men in the crowd undoubtedly are afraid to share their true feelings. We know and they know. They aren't fooling anyone.

Interesting to see that it's the younger posters that find it strange to listen to female pop singers.
