Good for him! Since he is an Atlanta native, he has blessed this area with a lot of wonderful locally flavored artwork over the years. I'm especially proud of all the artwork that he has produced for the University of Georgia. His portrayals of "Hairy Dawg" are iconic in these parts.

Amazing comic artist. This year I bought the compilation "'Tain't The Meat... It's The Humanity!", a selection of some of his work for EC horror magazines. Highly recommendable (great job by Fantagraphics, as always).

  4. What a slacker. I mean, 93-year-old Al Jaffee is still doing his Fold-Ins 'n' stuff! :)

[IMG]Along with Mad I bought Topps cards called Wacky Plaks in '59, and his Topps series of Valentine cards. I tried to copy his drawings, emulate his style with his unique shadowing and, of course, his outrageous characters.

I'm sure he's aware of his huge, can't-be-underestimated influence. Thank you, Mr. Davis!

Love his work. I'm sure I had that same issue, with Alfred's head through the tree. I can't believe someone shared the Wacky Placs, we had them in Australia - that took me back. I wish I knew where my collection is now!

Probably the busiest artist of the 60's. His art was everywhere. He must be REALLY tired
by now so I wish him well.

Jack Davis was a great inspiration when I was a young artist. I love his work.

MAD 'was' my childhood and coming of age years. I loved the movie spoofs, Spy vs. Spy, Don Martin and, of course, the fold in. Whatever happened to Sergio Aragones?

    Enjoy retirement, Jack. ;)

He also did that famous life size Frankenstein poster that used to sell in back of all the old Warren magazines as well as the cover to the Dracula's Greatest Hits lp and the monster cards that were included inside it. Those are quite collectable now.

  24. Not Jack Davis art - just look at the credit on the back cover there.

Oops! I bought that record today and my mind said it was Jack's artwork. I didn't even look at the credits! Sorry!

At least I wasn't the only one.

I did a "Jack Davis Herman's Hermits" Google image search for the artwork. No wonder it matched.
