I'm assuming both Peter Gabriel and Kate Bush have come up time and time again in this thread.

    So here's one more...

I'd consider Pablo Honey to be a weak album.

Well touché, I wouldn't consider it a good album, but it has its moments. I wouldn't go so far to call it bad or weak.

Both of those albums are great. I quite like George Martin's original score on Side 2 of Yellow Submarine - he had his own 'voice' as an arranger, and there's certainly nothing wrong with hearing some orchestral music on a Beatles soundtrack by a man who knows what he's doing. And Side 1 is a great collection - including those two unique and quite magical George Harrison compositions.

And Beatles For Sale - great from beginning to end, like every one of their other LP's...

Only two proper albums: the first, excellent; the second, an album to hear before you die.

    And you wouldn't be alone.

I vote for Van der Graaf Generator.

No objection with Kate Bush. I'll sign that!
Peter Gabriel? Very close, but disqualified by "OVO"

Because people are desperate to try in any little way to find some fault with The Beatles' albums. It cannot be done.

Meh, nothing wrong with OVO (if we ignore that awful rap thing that opens the CD...)

'Downside Up' is one of my favourite PG tracks.

There are many bands that have never released a bad album. Now, without a single weak album is something different. Sometimes, a record may sound weak when compared to other works by the same band. For instance, A Momentary Lapse of Reason sounds a little weak for a Pink Floyd album, but had it been released by another band, it would have been received in a very different way. Beefheart's Bluejeans and Moonbeams it's a very nice album, but, when compared to other of his albums, it sounds a little bit lame and uncharacteristic. There are many cases like these.

  18. I would have mentioned Queen, except that I think The Game is relatively weak with the exceptions of "Sail Away Sweet Sister" and the marvelous "Save Me". Queen is surely one of the more consistently excellent bands.

  19. The "consensus" on Hot Space appears to be falling apart if you read some of the posts in this recent thread:

    http://forums.stevehoffman.tv/threads/reappraising-queen-1982-1989.400648/

I don't think there was ever a consensus that Hot Space was weak except in the USA.

I'm listening to "OVO" right now. I haven't spun that disc for at least 8 years, because of that awful rap thing at the beginning.
But there are indeed some beautiful songs on it.
    Thank you for reminding me!

So, Peter Gabriel is a good choice in this thread.

I was listening to 'Zenyatta Mondatta' at the weekend - at least third is filler, no?

Was just going to post that suggestion of myself. Although their sound changed a lot over time, their consistency is amazing.
