"A spokeswoman for Universal said that the label has “no current plans” for a Beatles release, but last year Universal and the Beatles’ label, Apple, kept plans under wraps until just before “The Beatles Bootleg Recordings 1963” turned up on iTunes. The group’s unreleased 1964 recordings include studio outtakes from the “Hard Day’s Night” and “Beatles for Sale” albums, as well as several BBC appearances and soundboard tapes of the band’s concerts in Paris, Melbourne, Adelaide, Vancouver, Philadelphia and several other cities."

Fortunately, although such releases are designed to thwart unauthorized copies, bootleggers persist. I've seen (but not purchased) some mighty nicely packaged LPs of the 1963 bootleg set. CDs too.

Well there ya go then! Since they are denying the release, it's a guarantee to come out now, right???!!! Makes sense to me! :nyah:

Maybe the thread should be retitled:

Who will be buying PD releases of 1964 Beatles outtakes that will be coming out soon? ;)

Do we know for sure that Universal would by-contract be the company that releases the tracks, or does their acquisition of the Beatles' catalog only extend to what's already out? Is it possible that Apple Corps could release it through iTunes without the middle-man, keeping more of the money for the band?

Just throwing out a theory here. Based on nothing but imagining what might happen after Universal's denial.

Nice idea but no, this isn't a possible scenario I'm afraid.

Universal likely had "no current plans" for the 63 issue last year...until they put it up on iTunes. I'm not that optimistic for a release of 64 material, but I have enormous credibility issues with corporate spokespeople.

Well, let's just hope we make it to 2019 before "No Pakistanis" get into the hacking game...

If the choice is not to release anything and let it fall into the public domain or to release their own set, I think it's safe to say that we'll be getting something before the end of the year to cover the material from 1964. They are a business and it doesn't make good business sense to let this material fall into PD. If I 'owned' something and had the option to extend that ownership for another 20 years -- or give up my rights and let it below to everyone, I'd opt to do what I could to retain the rights. It's common sense.

I vote that we'll see a quiet release on 12/24 or 12/25 with no press release whatsoever.

Officially the "market" is "closed" in between Christmas and the new year, but I'm pretty sure The Beatles could get a pass on that, haha.

I don't frequent iTunes much so I can't say for sure, but probably not very often.

However, these Copyright Extension releases are a relatively new thing with unique circumstances, so I'm not sure any existing precedent would apply. Point taken though.
