Does it bother you that in 20+ years many icons of the baby-boomer generation will have passed?*

Spending much of my life immersed in the study of culture long past, usually beyond first hand memory, you learn that common knowledge of one era is largely gone & forgotten in the next.

Yeah there are a good amount of artist alive today that were active during the 60's/70's even 1950's. One day the oldest of artists would have started during the 90's and on the oldies stations they'll be playing Eminem, Britney Spears, Linkin Park, Coldplay and Beyoncé.

SITKOL you seem to be purposely trying to rub it in that all the boomer heroes are dying and gleefully forecasting a future where everyone will only love the modern artists that (most)people on this forum hate. Some somewhat subtle trolling?

Well, many of you are older (50's and 60's even) you've had your children and even grandchildren, you've been following your favorite artists for many years and many have already passed. The though of them being no longer has probably crossed your mind many times. Think in terms of hen you were younger and the "Legends" were newbies, how would the thought have been to you then. And lastly think about who were already legends during the 1960's. There's a video on youtube of Mel torme and Ella Fitzgerald presenting a grammy award in 1976. They come out and receive a standing ovation as they were already legends then (38 years ago). They are both passed now and many kids today couldn't name a song by either. To be completely honest I don't think many kids today even know who they are. Think about how some of these artists will soon be completely forgotten by the upcoming generations. If I could be completely serious the only artists names I see living on for years are Michael Jackson and The Beatles and maybe Elvis. Even that's a stretch :(

Considering the wonderfully unique music they created and how much joy they brought to the world, I'm more astounded that icons like The Beatles etc. actually existed. The fact that someday they'll die? Not so astounding.

"We would have a new generation of those deemed "Living Legends" and the greatest artists lists will compose of younger acts."

This statement is more bothersome than anybody passing.

I think the one that'll hit me hardest will be David Bowie...that man should not die.

The term " rub it in " in reference to aging, and death is so strange to me.
You didn't find your wife screwing another man.
You didn't lose a fortune gambling.
    You're going to die.
Why is being reminded of an eventual reality so confusing to some ?
    If I don't acknowledge it's presence, it won't come for me ?????
I picture a grown adult with his head under a rug, believing no can see him.

I take each day as it comes. No day is taken for granted; I could, easily, die tomorrow. Music and those that make it are gifts; nothing is a given.

There are new icons born everyday, it only bothers me when great artists are gone before their time ''Buddy Holly, Elvis, John Lennon, Marvin Gaye, Jim Morrison, Nick Drake etc....
