Have any of you read this book written by Aaron Copland, the famous composer called "What To Listen For In Music?" If any of you haven't, I highly recommend this book as a great music appreciation reference book and is the one of the only books of it's kind written by a famous "classical" music composer, published by the Penguin Putnam/Signet publishing group and many people still consider it the best of its kind. Definitely worthwhile if you wish to go inside the mind of a composer.

It was recommended in Stereophile a while ago; a very worthwhile read.

BTW, @McLover considers this essential reading as well and has read it several times getting more and more out of it every time.

I found my copy of this at Goodwill for $.99 and I am really enjoying it.

I found out that there are many colleges that use this book for their music appreciation classes, which is a great thing.

I haven't read this in a while. May have to pull my copy out and have a re-read. Thanks for the post.

I read this about 20 years ago and remember really liking it. Might have to dig out my copy for a re-read.

A fine primer to music and listening. When I was a lad this was the book they used to teach it as par of music appreciation in school, somehow I wound up with two copies

I've read the whole book twice, and have dipped into it many times. It sits on my "music book shelf" and is worthwhile read for everyone.

I saw a copy on my aunt's living room bookshelf this thanksgiving. I started thumbing through it and it seems like good reading.

I like how it ranges in price form $1 to $2,343. I think I'll go for the $1 copy myself! That way I can by 1 copy for myself and 2,342 to give away to friends for the same price I could spend on the pricier version. I'm frugal that way.
