My amp is approaching 30 years old and after powering up, I've had to gently :) , rap the top of it to get the left channel to go on. Leaving it on seems to eliminate this problem so opting to leave it on 24/7.

Anyone else leaving their solid state amp's on 24/7?

Gave up on that a long time ago. I switch my amp on now and get great sound from the off.

I used to leave mine on all of the time, but current amp is running Class A, so it gets turned off...

    Guilty!

(besides that, the switch of my Electrocompaniet monoblocks are at the back side, so difficult to switch off... Exception: during the holidays, then they are off)

Mine were on for over 30 years until I stopped working and decided to try and cut my electric bill. It used to get up to $1000 in the summer and $500 in the winter. Now it's about half of that.

I generally turn my amps on in the early afternoon and off before I go to bed. The only drag is when I forget to turn them on and want to listen. I just can't listen to my amps until they've been on for at least 2 hours, and the longer the better.

I actually got a pair of the MX-r amps that had to have a part replaced. Mike from Ayre is a very helpful guy and he actually recommends not shutting them down. He claims that not only does that leave them ready to play but it's actually better for the components in them.

You don't need any if you leave it on all the time :) No silly, just saying I also leave computers on.

My SS amp is triggered by my Denon 4311 and for my stereo preamp I just turn it on and off when in use. I can't see any reason to leave it on all the time other than wasting electricity :).

SS on all the time, unless there is a thunder storm and I am around to turn it off. I have lost power numerous times when they were on with no issues. For tubes I turn them off after using, always, unless I am hanging around the house and going to be listening on and off for the day or night, then I keep them on until I know I am done listening.

I've always left my amps on all the time. My electric bill is about $20 a month, so it's obviously not breaking the bank.

Sometimes I leave the amps on for days but I honestly only notice that the converters in the CD players/recorders I have are what benefit from always being on/warm constantly. Those I leave on 24/7, but turn the amps off and on according to usage -mainly because it's 'greener' according to the female in the house. I suppose I should leave them on considering their vintage (Audionics of Oregon CC-2 and a Hafler 220).

Yup, class A stuff off, too much current draw and heat.
Non class A solid state on 24/7.

    Might want to rethink that...

SAE Mark IIIA.......no switches on this one, anywhere.

This only gets shut down when no one will be in the house (exceedingly rare event) via the surge/power strip.

My Odyssey Stratos is on all the time. It does sound better when it's been warmed up for a few hours but really it's more about convenience. The mfr recommends leaving it on 24/7 too. I'm sure it draws something at idle but nothing compared to when its working, so I don't worry about the extra electricity use.

Mike's great. I leave my V-5xe on standby, but maybe I should check with him.
