    Alright folks!

I probably should begin by apologizing, i know this has allready been discussed many times.

My cd-player Cambridge 840C broke and i'm now looking for a replacement. This time i want to include sacd-playback. I'm on a tight budget right now so i need something that sounds good but can be found cheap in the used market. I have some candidates listed. Please tell me what you guys think about these alternatives. Other suggestions are ofcourse welcome.

I play mostly redbook, sacd is secondary. Headphone-jack is preferable.
    • sony ES 555 (European version)
    • Pioneer DV-868avi
    • Marantz SA-8005
    • SONY QS SACD/DVD,DVP NS900V
    • Denon DVD-3930
    • Primare DVD-30 (a tad to expensive but mayby)

If you can find a used pioneer DV-565a, they were fairly priced and mine was excellent. I wonder what I did with mine....

Another nice piece of gear passed on to family and likely never used Again!

Broke...it's not that old, it's not under warranty?

I have the Marantz SA8005 and it is quite good. 3 yr warranty as well.

    I have a Primare DVD-30 in use as a back-up machine.

It is an excellent player, but I think that my Oppo BDP-105 gives better sound and is a lot more versatile.

Think I'd be after the Marantz from that list too.

No warranty left i'm afraid (five years old), it still plays cd "mostly" but there is some weird elecrical-glitch, the digital-inputs completly dead. Therefore not usable as a dac. For cd playback the discs are not accepted 100% of the times either. I have to take the cd out and put it back in a couple of times to make it work. Sometimes the transport puts the still spinning disc on the tray :yikes: no scratches yet but i'm really worried when it happens.

I see a couple of you guys recomending the marantz, never owned marantz-gear. In generall how is the build quality? sound?

    Another vote for the Marantz.

Go audition some in your budget at an audio dealer. Why no Oppo? Their products would definitely be in my audition group.

Tight budget unless an earlier model is in scope I think. Though the Oppo DV-980H was very well reviewed a few years ago.

I'm curious about this too. Anybody have an opinion on the Oppo players? I saw that these can do SACD, DVD-A, play FLAC files, as well as being a BD/DVD player.

I love my Oppo players; nice and warm and very versatile.

Marantz SA8005 build quality is very nice and it is backed by a very nice warranty.

Which model do you have? The BDP-103 looked cool but it's a little pricey.

None of the above, skip the stand alone, if your a 2 channel person, go PC/JRiver separate DAC/AMP (IFI Micro). Look for a SACD rip or do them yourself if necessary, if not too many, have someone else do them for you.

Mayby i should consider oppo. I'm a little bit sceptical when it comes to super-muli-bd-players though. :D

Anyone buying an SACD player should seriously consider the Marantz, although the Yamaha CD 2000 is also great.

If you're just looking for something dedicated to music, there may be a better choice. I only asked about the Oppo as I kind of want something that can play my SACD collection, but I would also want DVD and BD support on that player also.

I'm starting to think in a different direction.

Mayby the best thing for me would be to buy a DAC. Then i can just buy a cheap solid transport. I used my Cambridge as DAC but that's no longer possible . I have a Sqeezebox for streaming hi-res files from my NAS. Would be nice to hook that one up to a DAC.

As an owner of a Marantz SA 8004 I recommend the SA 8005...can be used as a DAC and accepts iPod gen 5-7 by way of the front USB. Fantastic build quality and can be found used for a reasonable price

I would have heartily recommended the OPPO 105 but...........

As you had a Cambridge and presumably liked it....why not go with the Cambridge 752 BD
