Cliched I know, but the ultimate record for really horrible times to me has been, consistently, The White Album.

The record is so eerie and down it is some sort of help in dire situations. When my Mrs. passed away I had it on constant rotation for about a week.

I agree about 'Bryter Layter' being a very uplifting record. I'm not sure 'Pink Moon' is in that catagory though.

Daedalus I haven't heard it all.....

This response may be slightly off the meaning of the thread but here goes- when the country(USA) was in the middle of the chaos and angst of the Vietnam era with all of the upheaval the Grateful Dead released their wonderful album "American Beauty"-it was an amazing calming antidote to a lot of the strident hostility rampant everywhere at that time-just what the doctor ordered. And don't forget "Uncle John's Band" from just a few months earlier. Wisdom timeless from Hunter/Garcia.

    The Innocence Mission - Befriended.

Their songs are always a reminder that there is a lot of beauty in this world, even if it's sometimes hard to see.

I try not to listen to music when I'm down. I don't want to leave a bad connection to music I love.

Oddly enough (considering it's not exactly the most upbeat album), Adore by Smashing Pumpkins in the summer of 1998.

No other album captures that mood of 'I know I'm right and they're wrong, but I'm powerless to stop them' like this does. Dreaming Drains in particularly hit me like a ton of bricks when I first heard it.

Nice to see another calypso fan here.

I would always recommend the music of Lord Melody. Constantly upbeat and yet, full of enough storytelling and dark humor that it offsets the image of 'happy islander' so commonly associated with calypso.

No particular albums, but sometimes the sheer thought of there being music in the world helps to make its weight more bearable.
