I'll happily enjoy the Steven Wilson concert where tickets were $34 instead.

I live in NYC and Steely Dan have been playing the Beacon Theatre for multiple shows the last several years and they have been charging 250.00 dollars for the front section of the place....personally I go to tons of shows but the cost has become prohibitive for big name acts.I do not understand how or where people get the money for these shows or for sporting events either? The other day my doorman told me he was going to see the Eagles at Madison Square Garden and when I asked him how much the ticket cost him he said 250.00!Go figure,I cant figure it out!

  3. I've seen them 3 times over the years (1996, 2000, 2009) and the 3 tickets cost me less than this. It's getting ridiculous.

I'm not sure what purpose comments like this serve. Of course there are many many acts who can be seen for much less than $185 or whatever, but I don't see the relevance.

If I don't have any interest in a band charging $34 or the like, it doesn't do me much good that those prices are so cheap.

If I want to see Steely Dan, their prices are relevant - prices charged by Steven Wilson aren't...

If you're referring to his book, I sort of interpreted that as him sticking with his dyspeptic persona. It's not like Steely Dan ever offered the warm embrace of benevolent kindness. But if he really feels that way about S.D. fans, then the entire enterprise is indeed a bitter joke.

Well, that was an eloquent, convincing retort...

I disagree. Steven Wilson puts on a high quality show with talented musicians. A high quality show with talented musicians was one of the arguments put forward for Stevie Dan charging so much. Admittedly Steven Wilson tours a whole lot more than Stevie Dan, but it does make a valid counter point.

Steven Wilson ticket prices aren't relevant if a person doesn't want to see Steven Wilson. Telling me how great it is to see Steven Wilson for $34 or whatever doesn't matter when I have no interest in seeing him play. Steely Dan prices are relevant if I want to see them - telling me how much other artists charge doesn't make sense.

And the members of Steely Dan don't need to justify their prices by saying "we gotta pay out great musicians!" They can charge whatever they want. If it's "too expensive", people won't buy the tickets...

I once paid $24 for a Long Island Iced tea that I'm still bitter about.

Not to mention, Roger *preferred* that people sit in the cheap seats (which were around $60), because the farther back you were, the more visual elements you could see. I wouldn't have wanted to sit up close.

I went twice, once in the expensive seats, once in the cheap seats. The cheap seats were a far better experience. Even the quad effects were better further back.

I love SD but that's crazy $hit...I would only pay that price if the whole original band was playing but in their twenties...:nyah:

But that's the problem, it's going to be Gaucho style in their 60's...

The Eagles - Madison Sq Garden, nyc 1977 - $9.50....this was considered a lot of money back in the day for a concert.

You can wait several years and see the Hologram Tour for maybe 25-50 bucks or you can see the real life guys for $185.00
If someone has the money it's not a difficult decision :)

If the tickets are selling well, then it's the right price. Demand ultimately is the deciding factor.

But would I pay it? Hell no.
