If anyone ever wonders why some older records from the 50s look so beat up and play scratchy, just show them this. :)

    WOW, thanks for the pictures.

Cabinet looks in pretty good shape for its age.

I noticed the old variable turning capacitor first thing.

What shape is the old speaker in? Does the speaker have 4 wires going to it? If so just going from memory two wires were for the voice coil and the other two went to a DC electromagnetic coil around a round iron poll piece which created the magnet for the speaker voice coil to function The coil was also part of the filtering of the high voltage DC power supply. I think it worked as a choke between 2 electrolytic caps in the DC power supply.

Are you going to try to restore and power her up? No doubt you will need to recap her first.

Thank's jea my only thought was, its still on craglist and they drop the price to one hundred because there moving.
its 5 miles away i have a truck with lift-gate. it looks better than the pictures ill take some more sat.
speaker i think it was round plug in the upper one. the bottom was 10 or 12in. you pushed the wood panel in turn 1/3
and speaker was on other side push in its gone. but it look like a bunch of wires at first site.
people said they never plug it in, just had it in the entry way for looks 30 something years.
I'm going to do my best to make it alive sing again. what do you think of Gerrard 210 in it place, look better?
and i have one. will it look out of place ??

    Randy,

    Great pictures.

Just guessing the transformer mounted on the large 10" or 12" dia round speaker is the output transformer for the two Push Pull configured 6L6 power tubes. That would be 3 wires of the 6. (B+ and one from each plate of the 2 power tubes.) Just guessing again 2 wires are for the DC electromagnet (speaker field) for the speaker. Not sure about the 6th wire, maybe a B- chassis ground wire.

As for the oval speaker that is confusing. The speaker looks to have a permanent magnet , not an electromagnet. The 2 wires feeding the transformer puzzles me as well. Where are they fed from?

When you get the wiring schematic diagram please post a picture of it.

By chance do you know the model number of the console?

It's likely that you're experienced with restoring these early consoles, but as a warning for those out there that aren't: Please keep in mind that in many cases the chassis on these early electronics are LIVE, so please be very careful when working on them! I always suggest using a variac or isolation transformer for safety.

That is a nice looking cabinet. The Garrard TT will still look vintage enough and should function much better than the stock one. What is the tracking?
I have a 1958 Motorola SK18M console with a Motorla TT. I bought a neat $10 box of 200 well played but not totally trashed 45s that had a great selection of rock, soul and country to play on it. It needs some work on the tuner/preamp as I am only getting sporadic sound from the tuner section but the TT plays fine.
