Well, you got the privilege of mentioning him first.

Definitely one of the greats. Like his rockers and this one too.

A great great era for pop singles and jazz albums. The reason it is more in the shadows is the dearth of excellent pop LPs.. Elvis (or his handlers) wasn't like The Beatles or even the Stones in viewing the Album as a place to make a coherent statement.

My favourite songs from this era are pretty much all of 1963, which towers over the other years in it.

About three-quarters of my favourite songs from the entire eight-year period are from that one year, although there's always Venus in Blue Jeans, Bobby's Girl, Starlight Starbright, Johnny Remember Me, Blue Angel, El Paso, Since I Don't Have You, Bauble Bangles and Beads, Suzie Darlin' ...

a sweet little song. From Shelley's own lips, she couldn't sing a lick. Of course that's clear from the finished song, but she has admitted
she was so tonally challenged they had to piece the single together from dozens of takes just to keep it in tune! Still, the finished product is
sweet, and of course she was a teenage boys wet dream so thanks for the visual too.

I believe I saw these guys perform in their prime. A VERY sexy act, which was super weird as they were sister and brother!
Am I confusing them with someone else? One of the wierdest things I saw in the era.

Got this CD for his earlier rockabilly work, but this Orbison-esque number turned out to be one of the highlights.

Most of the best novelties came out of this period too: Martian Hop, Purple People Eater, Monster Mash ...

If you've never heard the Martian Hop, behold its sheer brilliance and audacity that is to the '60s what Bohemian Rhapsody was to the '70s:

What a great era for music. The 45 was King. So many great songs, & I will never forget them ! The radio stations were playing rock n' roll, doo wop, soul, dance music, pop, instrumentals all on one station. The best top 40 music Ever !

Since we're speaking of banned and Buddy in this thread, I've always wondered if this song got any airplay at all back in those days :)
