I borrowed the Rhino again  and it is not in the same league. If you buy the new SACD it is a significant upgrade.

Ironically, the bass is the one thing I think is better on the original LP. The SACD bass is also excellent, as well as deeper and fatter. I think the mid-bass is boosted a bit too, probably to better balance out those horns. I hear more detail and texture on the LP bass though. Beyond that, I think the SACD is better across the board. The horns are definitely tamed, which is a very welcome thing, although I agree with you on the slight loss of sparkle from the cymbals. Vocals are fuller and I feel like the piano is slightly more prominent and no longer gets buried under the horns. Overall I would describe the SACD as darker sounding than the LP, which I think serves the music well. This music has balls.

They took it off the other day. They usually do that when its backordered. I'm sure they will have it again, just don't when. I had it ordered there, but I chose
instead to order it from Elusive Disc, got it in 4 days.

Interesting...they ran out of the Blood Sweat & Tears from Audio Fidelity also, yet it's still listed. I have my doubts that they will get that one back in. (I may order both from Elusive - it's a few bucks cheaper than Acoustic Sounds.)

Obviously, I waited too long on both the Chicago & BST at Import CDs. I don't think I'll wait for them to come back in - because there are no guarantees. I do have the Guess Who & Bread on order from them, so those should be OK.

I like both..... Mofi's house sound reveals slightly clearer treble and bass. The Sony has the better midrange.
I don't own the original LP, and I compared only 24K vs SACD.

It isn't a straight quad folddown, it's the SQ encoded matrix. A straight folddown is actually fairly similar (but obviously not identical) to the stereo mix.

You mean the Rhino DTS DVD? It wasn't released on DVD-A.

I would love to hear how the MoFi SACD compares with the 2010 Rhino "HQ-180" vinyl LP, which, in my opinion, sounds really good. I have an original Columbia LP as well (and I do mean ORIGINAL) but it's somewhat time-worn. The 180g Rhino vinyl is exceptionally quiet.

I haven't really looked to see that it was DTS...I just play it in my machine and it sounds great.

The cover lists it as DVD Audio, but it does play in DTS as well.

Ah, you're right, it's a typo. Fixed for the Aretha disc.

Original LP long gone and this beats the CD, which was replaced by the DVD which I'll have to dig out, but I suspect the SACD to be the winner.

P.S. My English teacher would hate that sentence.

I have the quad DVD, but I prefer stereo and bought the MFSL SACD.

I think the MFSL SACD is a significant improvement over the Rhino CD set. The Rhino set is awful, so really any other CD out there is better. The MFSL SACD is excellent. All my opinion, of course.

    Hi Keith,
Did you get a booklet included with the CTA SACD?
I've just got mine but there's no booklet.
    Thanks

I was able to get one from my local audiophile store on the recommendations here. On first listen everything sounds great. I will compare it to my early pressing vinyl tomorrow when I get a chance but I definitely prefer the sound of this to the Rhino CD (and the samples on HD Tracks). Thanks again!
