But the original version of WMGGW *is* on Anthology 3 (albeit with that ugly looped ending).

"Heavy" became "Tomorrow Never Knows" - albeit without Helter Skelter take 3, obviously. :-(

For me the holy grail is "Carnival Of Light"

    But also
    "Revolution Take 20"
    "Flying" - long version
    "Circles"
"It's All Too Much" - long version

    + Xmas album

I dunno.... the 9-minute "Flying" is INCREDIBLY boring and somewhat grating.

However, "Aerial Tour Instrumental" (with the jazz ending), remixed with ambient reverb, may have been considered for the Anthologies at one point...... but I'm not stating that as fact, because every time I think I know something people here tell me I'm wrong. *hides* :p

Reading these kinds of threads depresses me because I know we won't see an Anthology 4 and we aren't likely to see a release of rarities, period for a long time to come (if ever).

That's what bugs me.... I've heard from multiple people 'in the know' that the Beatles camp has a sort of makeshift schedule of potential releases, but no one ever seems to know what's on that schedule - and if what's on it will actually come out in the end.

Look how long it took to get "Tomorrow Never Knows" (formerly "Heavy"), and the 'official' release of "Magical Mystery Tour" (which was first mentioned around the Anthology period).

I see the potential for this too. Here is probably THE most successful and influential band in the world and there are no Deluxe versions of any of their albums. Give us The Beatles Archive editions which include a hybrid SACD, a disk (or two) of remastered outtakes for the era, and a nice hard-bound book.

Goodbye (Paul's demo for Mary Hopkin)
    Bad To Me (John's demo)
    Here Today, Gone Tomorrow
I'm In Love (if it's really an early demo - it sounds like a Dakota era version to me though)
    Revolution Take 20
    Etcetera
Carnival of Light (although my better judgment tells me this will get skipped as much as Revolution #9 does)

I have a nice set for sale on Discogs if you're interested..

As much as I love the Beatles, the Anthology is more miss than hit for me. It's mostly in-progress stuff that isn't as good as the final product. You finally get to hear George's precious non-trumpet version of 'It's All Too Much' only to realize that Paul was right. It did need those embellishments and is kind of boring without them. I know this stuff is terribly important from a history perspective, but day-to-day I'd rather listen to the originals.

And I often wonder whether I'm the only person who thinks George should never have messed with While My Guitar Gently Weeps after recording the demo. It was perfect like that and I'd have loved that version to have been on the White Album!

    Well that's most likely why
I suppose Cynthia just dropped in at the Dakota?

I don't think they'll release an Anthology 4, but perhaps outtakes from every album in a box set...

    For example:

    Let It Be (Half Naked)
    Abbey Road (Full Frontal)
The Beatles (If You Become Naked)
    Help! (I'm Naked)

    etc.

    ;)

Maybe. I can't say. I didn't know she sang on I'm In Love though.

The group version of "All Things Must Pass"-- To my mind the most puzzling omission from the Anthologies.

  16. A re-mix of the entire catalogue with Yoko adding strategic yelps in key musical passages.

I love both versions, and I would also very much like to hear the original group recordings of the song from before Clapton was brought in, that George scrapped.

I wish Apple would have released the 1964 copyright set.

The difference is the Anthology series was obviously planned as three double CD sets to encompass The Beatles entire career in chronological order to accompany the documentary. There was never an indication that Live At The BBC would be a series.

I concede that there could be some kind of official release of Beatles unreleased material, but I think it's unlikely, and it certainly wouldn't be released as 'Anthology 4'. Why would they revive a project that concluded 19 years ago?

There are far more other ways The Beatles / Apple could reap $$$ - where's Let It Be on blu ray? Where's the catalogue in 5.1? Where are the super deluxe box sets of the albums to celebrate the 50th anniversary?

They could barely find enough interesting things for the first three installments!

    Carnival of Light
    Helter Skelter Long Version
    Revolution Long Version
    Yoko "John John John" song
    Martha My Dear alternate take
    More Decca tracks
Live tracks of every song known to have been played live by the Be-atles.
    I Want You (Paul vox)
And your Bird Can Sing alternate take without tomfoolery
    Judy Garland GET OFF!

That wasn't by The Beatles after all (Lewisohn was incorrect, Paul didn't sing a take)

It's weird the one that ended up on bootleg in the late 70s? isnt, but there is a rehearsal version during
Get Back sessions with Paul singing.

I'd rather have deluxe editions of the albums with an extra disc of just alternates and rough takes.

There is 400 hours of session tape.

Almost everything mentioned already has been heard.
