If you could only listen to a 10 year span of music, and nothing else, what would it be?

I might go with this, for pretty much the same reasoning, if forced to choose. It would be a less ideal span for classical and (especially) jazz, though.

My first thought was 1966 - 1975, like many others here.

    I could maybe go with 1967 - 1977 if we're going the 11 route.

1963 to 1972. You'd get the Four Seasons early hits along with the first UK Beatles LP. 1963 was the peak for surf music too!

I'd get the excellent final year pre-Beatles pop scene through the Moody Blues' "core 7" and some great early Genesis, among other things.

London Calling, Lou Reed, The Cars, Big Country, The Ramones and all the great Simple Minds, Brooce and T'il Tuesday's "Everything's Different Now". That one album made those late 80's years with all that hair metal tolerable.

1979-1989- I'd get the disco stuff, some of the best Westcoast/AOR stuff

I'd get '80s R&B, especially the ballads and I'd get some of the best smooth jazz because after 1989, I stopped listening...

Tragically overlooked. There's a lot of albums I like that didn't really make a mark but this might be the one that puzzles me the most. As good as Welcome Home was I couldn't believe that people had forgot this band in two years. I think I was mad at the whole world for a few weeks.

I'll go with 69-79. That allows London Calling to squeak in and the way everyone's doing the math I get stuff from the 60's too.

I need "Purple Haze" as a starting point.

EDIT: Unfortunately, I miss my favorite AC/DC album by five days.
