That's what I figured, many recordings of this era exhibit distortion to some degree, unfortunately.

 

First thing I saw were Towner's Elephant Bell Bottoms.

 

Beauties eh? If he got them stuck in his volume pedal he'd have the Bell Bottom Blues.

Perhaps his referral to the SACD as "MCH 2003" was simply the year of the SACD release and the fact it's in Multi-Channel.

 

That was my interpretation, multi-channel, often shortened to: MCh. I've got the same cat#.

Yes, 2003 is the release year and you're right about "MCH".

 

Yes, I hear some distortion in the right channel (bass) from time to time. For example track 3 just after 0:35.

The sale has been ongoing for a while. I got two titles from them over six months ago: Kelly Blue, and Kenny Dorham's Quiet Kenny for around $15 each.

I just listened to Vinny Golia's Music For Like Instruments: the B Flat Saxophone (NewWinds).

I have that four cd set but I must have missed the memo on that last set, or should I say Lost Set. Is it really worth hunting down now? There was a time when I could have collected the original vinyl but I passed and when the cd set came out I just bought it. It's my favorite OP though and I don't have a lot of other candidates. I like him well enough but much like Art Tatum, he wears me out after a while and I have to listen to something else. This set of recordings is some of the most relaxed I've heard him play on tape.

Fwiw, today i rec'd the other two xrcd's I ordered...

 

Who mastered that one? Looks like a slightly later copy than mine, which is from around 1969 and has a -C cut on side A and original 1960 cut on side B.
