Dwight's over of 'Suspicious Minds' is incredible. This song actually made me a fan.

I agree. I have everything except his Christmas album. Love it all. "Tomorrow's Sounds Today" is probably the one I'd nominate for "hidden gem". Great steel guitar on that one.

That's the one that got me too! I hadn't really heard anything before that and was very biased against country until that point. Dwight was my entry point back to country after I had abandoned it in my early teens.

Don't pass up the Christmas album! It is great. Including an "interesting" Dwight penned number.

One tune that he plays on that DVD is "What I Don't Know" from the Buenos Noches LP. A great, underrated tune.

On the Austin City Limits DVD Dwight mentions how it started as a Bill Monroe-esque bluegrass tune.

I found a clip of Dwight on some cable access show from the mid-80's performing "What I Don't Know" in a bluegrass style.

It's on my short list of CD's to get! :righton:

I really liked that song he did with Michelle Branch a few years ago.

Poppy territory for Dwight but it works, it's called Long Goodbye.

Been a Dwight fan since "Just Lookin' for a Hit" when I got my 1st CD player in '89. And most everything since.

I'll just shout out a couple things that haven't been mentioned. His Under the Covers album is all covers and has the songs mentioned plus others but minus some on La Croix d'Amour. La Croix d'Amour was an import only and always very expensive. Also He had a CD called dwightyoakamacousticmusic.net that was an all acoustic greatest hits CD (25 songs!).

Can't go wrong with the OAS. also, his CDs are always the LOUDEST ones in a shuffle!

Someone already identified the guitar as an Epiphone Casino. Dwight Yoakam has been playing an Epiphone Casino in recent years. In that video clip, all three guitars used by the band look like Epiphone Casino guitars. The guy in the white jacket is playing an Epiphone "Dwight Trash" Casino, which is model Yoakam and Epiphone designed using a reverse Firebird headstock on an Epiphone Casino.

The Beatles were known for using the Epiphone Casino. These days, Gary Clark, Jr. plays one, so maybe there will be some resurgence in interest in that guitar.

The live performance comes from The Live Room on Palladia on cable TV. That entire episode with Dwight Yoakam is great!

Slightly off topic but really enjoying last couple of vinyl reissues of Dwight's early material. Disappointing that Christmas album never showed up after early reports it was coming. Biggest hope is that we will see This Time on vinyl for the first time. Never has been available and by far my favorite album from him.

Just picked up the box set recently. What a nice overview and sounds really nice.

I already have most of the individual discs, but the box set includes a nice selection of soundtrack/live material.

I only have the first two albums on vinyl.

The notion that Dwight had a great run in the '90s and '00s is dead on. I'd suggest any fan who has a positive impression go with the following albums:

3 Pears, so you are "current"
This Time, which might be all-time favorite
If There Was a Way, which closes out the early years
    Gone, which is also excellent
    Tomorrow's Sounds Today
    Blame The Vain

Now, that's more albums to buy than many of us might buy in a single trip to the record store, but I think they are all a good indication of Dwight's talent, and his gifts for fans of that twangy, Bakersfield style. Enjoy!

And check out "Ain't That Lonely Yet."

I love his voice. I saw him live this summer (in a free concert, which was just packed with a huge audience) and his band is very rocking. Here's a song I like:
