I had hundreds of Sci-Fi VHS tapes that i recorded of TV...thankfully nearly all were released on DVD! there are still a few I'd love to see digitally...The Amazing Colossal Man...why the released the second War of the Colossal Beast and not the first one is beyond me?...

I am surprised when I can pick up a tape made in 1981 and it still plays. There is something satisfying about that [THUNK] when you put the tape in the player and the trailers start to roll. Takes me back to when my family got together to go to the little family-run video store in town and spent an hour trying to find a movie we could all agree on. We'd then go home and make popcorn on the stove and sit and watch the entire thing, no matter how bad it was.

  10. I own over 100 VHS tapes and we just found countless more while cleaning out the basement. Also found a crap ton of cassette tapes.

I still own about 6 Alpha cases full of VHS movies...and some taped off TV, etc...I guess I'll just keep them.

As I got DVD copies the VHS version went into the trash. I have about 50 tapes left which are all movies not yet on DVD or blu ray.

VHS tape looks shocking on a BIG, flat TV. Not only is the picture bad but there's all these black flashes.

I'd rather watch a movie on VHS than not at all.

that's why I still have a bunch hanging around...I do prefer to transfer them onto DVD...it's all about the flick.

The VHS player is PAL and the TV is NTSC. Maybe that's why I'm getting the flashes.

  22. I'd forgotten about the copy protection. My nostalgia immediately evaporated.

Fortunately the grey-area of being able to back up your copy for personal use isn't such a real time PITA with digital.

That'll do it. Watching PAL on an NTSC TV usually makes the image B&W and flickery, almost like trying to watch a scrambled cable channel way back when.

Did anyone (besides me) have one of these (or something similar) for copying tapes?
