  8. Anybody who doubts the genius of Kiss really needs to take heed of that line, which is one of the best openers in rock!

Not really! I didn't used to like it but I've grown comfortable with it over the years. But like you, NO to the grandma song. :thumbsdow

Ah, you beat me to it!

Love that "Reason I know it 'cause/I'm old myself" line, as well as...

He look at me and he say, what's this all about?
Give me my pipe, son — he had it in his mouth.

I find myself relating to "grandpa" here more & more!

Big shout-out here to David Johansen's cover version on his Shaker album.

I think the Moby Grape song was more an observation of Haight St fashion rather than an actual granny.

Bo Diddley took it one generation further, The Great Grand Father.

And Little Richard's The Girl Can't Help It made Grandpa feel like 21.

"Iko Iko" (Dixie Cups, Dr. John, Grateful Dead, Belle Stars) opens with the line "My grandma and your grandma were / Sit-tin' by the fire."

"Old Folks" by the Lovin' Spoonful doesn't use the "grandma" or "grandpa," but the verse about them telling stories from when "you mom and dad were little babies" implies he's talking to a grandparent.

Then there's the Iveys "See-Saw Grandpa."

Finally, can any Beach Boys expert tell me if the line in "Girl Don't Tell Me" is "I met you last summer when I came up to stay with my gran (or gram)" or "my friend?" Always wondered if he was vacationing at the grandparents or his buddy's place.

Thanks for the mention of that David Johansen cover. I'd never heard it.
