Last album you listened to that you wanted to end before it was over?

Have you ever sat through an album and just wanted it to end before the last song even started playing? Either the album was boring or longer than it should've been.

The latter example came to me while listening to Both Sides by Phil Collins. It has some very strong material, probably some of his finest. However, it tends to drag, especially since most of the songs on the album are slow. I started getting bored toward the end.

When was the last time you've been in this situation?

Just yesterday trying to get through Blue Oyster Cult's Revolution By Night. A few songs were better than I thought the album would offer, but overall it was a chore to listen to.

Sadly many rock-albums are formulaic and boring these days. Same riffs as heard before, same lifeless drums and autotuned vocals :D

But hey sometimes a good album comes along that's enjoyable from start to finish.

Extremely overrated album which is half filler.

    This one's great, though ...

This was a pretty weak listen, but for some reason I keep it ...

Not too long I thought about starting a thread called "Albums you stop listening to before the final song." And the example I was going to give is Pavement's Wowee Zowee. It has 18 songs and runs about 55 minutes. Its peak for me is the 12th song, "AT&T," after which I don't like a single tune, so I just stop playing it at that point. Those first 12 songs make a killer album, though.

Bjork's Vulnicura. A decent album that comes apart in the 3rd act.

One that starts really strong but slowly starts to lose my interest is Fountains of Wayne's Welcome Interstate Managers. It definitely could use a couple more fast ones on the order of "Bright Future in Sales."

Mark Knopfler "Tracker." And before that, "Privateer." And before that, "Get Lucky." And before that, "Kill To Get Crimson."

Has it really been 11 years since Shangri-La?

    Lone Arranger - Manfred Mann

2 tracks in, i skipped, didn't like that song either, that repeated until i turned it off. What was Mr.Mann thinking with this travesty of an album? It's like he wasn't even trying.

Not a single good track. All cringeworthy, NO highlights. Amazing in a certain way. I never had an album that was 100% bad.

MBV - Isn't Anything. Bought a copy as everyone says they were/are so great. Sat through it and decided once was enough - will sell it, don't want it in the collection.

    Madonna's Erotica.

Only(!) 14 songs but many of them are over 5 minutes long and the album becomes a trudge well before the end. Some great tracks, but needs prudent editing.

Also, most of Michael Jackson's albums after Bad.

Oasis- Be Here Now. Again, some amazing songs. Some of the best of their career, but so long.

    Paul McCartney- Driving Rain.

Most of Janet Jackson's albums after Control.

    Great list.
"Janet" is a pain in the ass to sit through. Especially if you include those pointless interludes.
Adele's "21" is also another one but for different reasons. :p

Good album, it just about 5 or 6 songs too long.

Actually I was curious what material you like from Both Sides. As a Genesis fan I picked it up automatically and had a strong desire to like it. Other than kind of liking We Fly So Close at first, the whole album ended up below my contempt. the band-in-a-can approach was perhaps a big reason why, but mainly it's the weak, hookless meandering. It still baffles me how quickly he lost his songwriting mojo. I hope this isn't a threadcrap, as I'm actually agreeing with you, just in a more emphatic way.

Yes, the Adele album is quite short, but I know what you mean!:)

Some really great songs, a bit of filler and some experimentation that hasn't aged well; but the real problem is, most of the tracks are just too long and outstay their welcome. I still rate it, though! :)

I just listened to those two. I need at least a couple of songs more tuneful than those to make it through that last section.
