    I've just come "undone"

Just placed my pre-order for this new Audio Fidelity release. Hybrid, SACD 2.0 and Quad.

You know who did the stereo mastering

    Ships 12/30

According to their website, it is none other than our esteemed host, Mr. Steve Hoffman! http://www.audiofidelity.net/content/guess-whothe-best-guess-who

I'm going to have to get this as well, since I've been looking for a vinyl CD-4 Quadradisc for years, to no avail. It'll be interesting to hear the quad mix, and I know the stereo mix will sound spectacular.

Edit: Just placed my order from Music Direct! :)

I've come undone many moons ago. Great band, great double CD comp, pre-loudness and eminently crankable. I've never felt the need to look anywhere else. YMMV, as always.

"Eminently crankable" often means "dull copy tape". Had you felt the need to look elsewhere you would have found this:

The same Vic Anesini mastering found cheaper on this:

2014 is now perfect. Steve knows I've been waiting many many years for this project to be able to come around and am buying ASAP. Finally! ;)

One of the first bands I ever saw live and I'll never forget how great they sounded even in a crappy college auditorium.......I even remember Burton Cummings was wearing a dark shirt with yellow maple leaf in the center. He had a one of a kind voice..... I have the standard cd of this but may have to step up to the SACD.

I have the Anthology CD and now that I've heard "The Answer," I can never go back to a single-disc Guess Who comp again.

Doesn't negate having another disc with better versions of some songs.

Best of the Guess Who is one of my all-time favorite albums. I just got the AF Hybrid and it sounds wonderful. I did have to edit out the intro to "American Woman" though so I can replicate the original Best of LP.

Of course! Your input is at least as valued as mine if not more so. I never dictate, only offer alternatives or agreements.

This is back in stock on Amazon FYI. They want $29.99 for it. Can I get it cheaper elsewhere?

Question (maybe SH will weigh in). This mastering is somewhat less dynamic than the previous CD release (DR10 versus DR14). Don't get me wrong, I think it sounds great. But I was wondering about the thought process involved with adding additional compression during this most recent mastering session. What did additional compression bring to the party? What problems did it solve? Were the mastering engineers pressured at all to compress this more than they felt was optimal?
