A great year for albums. If I crashed on a desert island with only albums from 1971 for company I'd stay reasonably sane!

What a great year for albums. I have most of these with a few exceptions.

I went with Meddle - Pink Floyd since that is the one I probably played the most back then and still play the most these days.

On another thread I commented on what a great year for great albums 1969 was, but I think 1971 is even better. Many bands, or artists, arguably released their best work in '71...or near their best in any case...

    Who's Next - The Who
Sticky Fingers - The Rolling Stones
    Untitled - Led Zeppelin
    Muswell Hillbillies - The Kinks
    L.A Woman - The Doors
A Nod Is As Good As A Wink...To A Blind Horse - The Faces
Every Picture Tells A Story - Rod Stewart
Master Of Reality - Black Sabbath
    Fireball - Deep Purple
    Elvis Country - Elvis Presley

For me it's a toss up between Who's Next and Sticky Fingers.

'Who's Next' - their best album, followed by 'What's Going On' - one of Gaye's best albums.

Also Stones, Lennon, Zeppelin, Beach Boys, and John.

From this list, I gotta go with Hunky Dory, but there are a lot of good ones on there that would be a really close second for me (i.e. Meddle, Ram, Electric Warrior, Love It To Death, etc.)

'ram' has more votes than graham nash, yes, carole king, janis joplin, nillsson and john lennon combined.

think there is an issue here?

I'm with all the others who say 1971 was an embarassment of riches, but AS ALWAYS I'm compelled to mention Mighty Baby's "Jug of Love". There are plenty of reasonable people who don't care for it.
