    So this is how Brian got that sound! Turns out to be pretty standard mountain dulcimer technique. You could have knocked me over with that feather... :targettiphat:

    Several Richard and Linda Thompson songs feature hammered dulcimer. "When I Get To The Border" comes to mind immediately.

    Attacco Decente definitely used the instrument. I'll post The Will Of One as representative of their sound, although I'm not sure if the instrument shows up on this particular song:

    Was just thinking that I remember hearing a dulcimer on a few Alan Parson's Project albums. After googling, turns out to be a cimbalom! Always wondered what that was; apparently the cimbalom is a concert hammered dulcimer.

    Let me take another run at answering you. John's dulcimer is a custom job with sustain pedal like a piano. Thats what you called FX. John has many albums available on Rounder.
