I think he just now coming into his own as an artist. His recent Bach recitals have been fantastic.

True. That cycle was cancelled by l'Oiseau-Lyre before he could finish it. Same with Roy Goodman's Haydn Symphonies cycle with the Hanover Band for Hyperion.

The way he brought the audience with him on his WTC traversal is a prime example of precisely what makes a truly great concert.

I think both Roy Goodman and Christopher Hogwood were closely associated with the ASMIF under Neville Marriner ...

Wasn't John O'Conor a student of Wilhelm Kempff?

I'm about to listen to a Mozart playlist to cook fish with :)
Included are: Violin Concerto #1, Piano Concerto #27, Divertimento (String Trio) in E flat KV 563, and Symphony #34.
These are the recordings I used:

    Fish recipe:

Ingredients: large fish fillets with skin on one side (today I'm using Atlantic Salmon)/garlic/one lemon zest & juice/white wine/olive oil/oregano/bread crumbs/salt
    Method:
    • mix olive oil, white wine, crushed garlic, lemon juice, and salt in a large oven safe dish
    • place fish skin side down in pan
    • mix together bread crumbs, olive oil, lemon zest, oregano, and salt
    • spread bread crumb mixture over the top of the fish
bake fish in moderate oven until cooked through

spoon remaining sauce from the dish over the top

    Enjoy!!

Wine I'm having with the meal today is a nice Sauvignon Blanc :righton:

Listened to some HIP Mozart last evening. First up was the Amadeus Winds playing Serenade No. 11. That was followed by Bilson and Gardiner performing Concertos No. 8 and 9. For the first time, I was not completely put off by the unbalanced forces. The fortepiano seemed just able to hold its own.

This may be a consequence of a modestly priced improvement to my secondary system. I added a Teac UD-301 DAC (on sale for $300 after rebate). It gave a little extra color and depth to the keyboard (and other instruments as well).

  13. Daedalus

Daedalus I haven't heard it all.....

In the CD player this morning: Brahms Concerto in D Major for violin and orchestra. Christian Ferras and the Vienna Phil conducted by Carl Schuricht. This is CD 20 from the Decca Mono box. Very nice warm mono sound without harshness. BTW, speaking of the Sibelius symphonic cycles( in response to earlier postings) try the Rozhdestvensky conducting Moscow Radio Symphony Orchestra released in a box set by Melodiya. I have them on LP as well in an old box set. My favorite.

Daedalus I haven't heard it all.....

Ps-started listening to the Blu-ray Audio Solti Ring last night. I still prefer the overall sound of my Decca vinyl (Telefunken) issue. But the Blu-Ray is pretty close and is much better than the CD issue from a few years ago. And the whole d....thing is on one disc. I need a "wheel barrow" to cart around the LP box set-well not quite but you know what I mean.

Continuing my journey through this set this morning. I'd forgotten how wonderful these works are, even the early ones like K. 271 for example. Now enjoying K. 413-415.

Funny - that's a different box than I have (with two fewer discs).

Does it includes the concertos for two pianos with Radu Lupu?

I have to say, that's one piece where I would definitely prefer a CD. No breaks.

True, no doubt it is better not to have to flip the records.
Robert Ludwig's mastering is really nice but I don't have my old CD with me at the moment to compare.
