Topanga Corral was actually recorded at the Kaleidoscope club in 1969. Confusing album but darn good. What label did you get it on?
Is it a CD or LP?

It's kind of tame. They had not yet found their classic sound but it's kind of cool as a historical document.

Future Blues and '70 Concert constitute a 2-album gap in my collection. I need to get those 2, especially after just listening to "Pulling Hair Blues."

A bit skimpy on duration at around 24 minutes (although these may be the complete recordings from the sessions) and they weren't really jamming yet, but it's very authentic and worth having. A bit more of a folk blues groove here than on most of their later albums.

I asked this at the start of the thread, but I'm guessing nobody knew for sure: does Blind Owl sing at all on Vintage? To me it sounds like he's one of the voices on "Straight Ahead", but it would be nice to know for sure.

Yeah, I understood that when I ordered it. I just got the Repertoire CD that was issued in 2001... it sounds fine to my ears. It's a rather strange live album in that each song is standalone, no continuous stage/audience noise between tracks. The music is solid.

It would be great if the Kaleidoscope tapes could be found and issued in whole. I think I read up-thread that Refried Boogie from Living The Blues was recorded at the same show (or shows).

I have the Pickwick reissue of Topanga Corral. Unlike many other Pickwick reissues, it's the whole album unabridged (probably because there were only 6 songs on the original Scepter release due to their length).

My buddy Eroc must of mastered the Repertoire CD. Canned Heat were the house band at the Kaleidoscope, there manager Skip Taylor was part owner. You would think many shows were recorded there? I wish they would release more shows Canned heat did there at the Kaleidoscope in 1969, that would be awesome.
Glad you like the Repertoire CD Guy.

I have the release on Magic. Says "remastered in high definition 24-bit", 2002.

After the 'Kaleidoscope Club' it became the 'Aquarius Theatre' at 6230 Sunset Boulevard Hollywood Ca. For the production of the Broadway musical
    " Hair."

I remember Eroc answered some questions and responded to a bunch of "ear bleeding" complaints here on SH at one point. I came to his defense on his master of Procol Harum's Broken Barricades... I always thought my original vinyl LP sounded rather dull. If he does most or all of Repertoire's work I'd say I like his approach/philosophy.

Sorry for this massive delay, folks, but I'm still alive and kickin'! Life got in the way and visiting this forum fell out of my routine for a while. But hey, might as well kick this thing back up with some o' them CANNED HEAT in this strange year of our lord 2016, eh?

Hooker and Heat - Canned Heat was the perfect band for John Lee Hooker, they were able to just lock up that Boogie and go!
"Whiskey and Wimmen", "Peavine" and "Boogie Chillen N0. 2" are off the hook great!! :pineapple:
Saw John Lee Hooker open for Muddy Waters at a little club, back in the day...

I know that "Boogie Chillun No. 2" is legendary amongst aficionados of the blues harp. Very sad to see the group and John Lee all dressed in black on the cover surrounding the framed portrait of Al Wilson.

I was 16 when this came out and was a big Canned Heat fan, but I remember thinking at the time "what are they doing recording with this old, black dude". LOL. I didn't buy it till years later when I became edumacated.

Just jumping in...to the huge part Canned Heat played in my and my friends' lives in high school and college and onward.
Re: Future Blues on cd; does the Repertoire disc hold up to the BGO release from the early '90s?? The BGO is starting to get pretty salty on Amazon.
For now, put on So Sad (The World's In A Tangle) and listen to Harvey and the band Drive....
