Thanks for the heads up on the Bird boxset, ordered one. Looks like the same track list as the 1990 US version though this looks to be a 2013 import version. I hope the sound is the same. Anyway, low risk at a great price. Thank you!

Not so fast! Universal Europe has released several similar US jazz sets in similarly "cheap" form over the last few years. There's the monstrous Bill Evans Verve, the Keith Jarrett Impulse and probably a few others I've forgotten about.

 

I have a few of those. The Keith Jarrett set is next on my list....

 

Good move -- it's essential stuff! Also, for what it's worth, Universal is the distributor for Fantasy/Concord in Europe. They have released several "complete albums" type sets for major jazz artists -- Miles, Monk, Rollins, etc. They contain the same mastering as the original OJC's that came out here in the States. If you don't mind that (I don't) and you have very little by now, it's a cheap way to fill in gaps in your collection. Here's an example:

It's a 'no frills' alternative for those who don't need every available click and tickle.

 

I have that All Miles set and love it. An easy way to get the Prestige albums in original running order with good sound.

 

Very tempting at that price.

 

I think it is a nice complement with the The Perfect Miles Davis Collection (20cds)

 

The recent Simon & Garfunkel box set just took a massive dive in price from 59 to 34GBP. NZ$67 shipped. Couldn't resist at that price.
