...Anyone crowd fund an album? Thoughts?

Through PledgeMusic pre ordered the latest Dengue Fever, Scot Weiland, and just today, I ordered the Dawes album.

I enjoyed the updates. I got a FLAC download of the Dengue Fever (24 bit) and Weiland albums CDs in the mail a few weeks later.

I've got my name in the recent 2-CD Ginger Baker compilation that was funded through PledgeMusic.

I've crowd funded that last two Lloyd Cole albums. In return I received 2CD versions of both and the satisfaction that my contribution has allowed a couple of albums to be made.

Sure, I love doing this, LOVE IT, because it allows me to directly hand super-cool artists a bag of money so as to say YOU'RE THE GREATEST; PLEASE MAKE A NEW RECORD. I'm crowdfunding the upcoming Trashcan Sinatras album at present (got a nice handwritten postcard from Omaha), and I previously supported the Graham Parker documentary and GP official boot box, a Cornershop album, the Marshall Crenshaw subscription EPs, and some other stuff that I forget. Yeah, the swag and updates are fun, but even sans swag, just being able to show one's appreciation is very gratifying.

Nothing builds musicians' morale like putting up a pledge and having it receive way more than they asked for way sooner than they expect. It sends them into the studio with a cheerful outlook.

Can't agree more. I contributed to the new Dawes album.

I saw them in a small club recently, and it was dirt cheap, so I figured I would repay them, as they can easily play bigger places.

    Yes!
I've pre-ordered the Pete Ham and Tom Evan demo CDs through Pledgemusic.
Very worthwhile cause. According to Pledgemusic the releases are endorsed by the 2 estates of the 2 Badfinger members. (Of course I'm not certain 100% of the sound quality/music, but I'm sure it'll be very interesting, to say the least...)

Crowd funding is the most ideal method to "vote" for a CD (or for that matter, any product) to be created, manufactured, and released. As the saying goes, it's a Win-Win, for the producer/consumer. And, also in this case, for the heirs of Pete and Tom.

    Excellent, totally agree.

The CDs/downloads I have gotten so far sound great, and the Dengue Fever was even 24 bit.

Yes, they are on tour in Europe recording a DVD right now. I helped with their last album just before Dunford passed.
