I never said it wasn't. But, he has 2 comps for Wings already. IMO, when he stopped using the name Wings , he forgot how to write good singles.

I would cut it down to 4 discs instead of 6, but you've got some very good songs there.

Actually, he's had a dozen or so Top 30 hits in the UK in the last 30 years.

Why most of users think that 'Best Of' compilation must be based on top 30 hits? I don't think other 3 fabs' solo compilations based on such criteria. No one of them really had a lot of Top xx success with singles.

What is needed is the 'Best Of' retrospective of the whole solo career from 1970 till 2014. Best material from each album/single.
It seems to me, no one needs another mixture of Wings Greatest and All the Best which were based on hits.

Talk about a flop. A McCartney post TUG of WAR Greatest hits would be a flop. Unless it was filled with some tracks of Paul singing Beatles stuff live or something, the interest would be ZERO. Paul knows it too. If there was a new HITS album, it would have to be sprinkled with some WINGS classics. Imagine a post 70's RINGO set. Stop and Smell the F***ing Roses would be of no interest to anyone except people who played on the songs.

I'm not sure which version (unedited) you refer to.

    Paul has three versions that have been released;

    1) Live at the BBC- sings lead on Beatles version track 15
    2) Choba B CCCP- track 8
    3) Good Rockin' Tonight - Legacy of Sun Records- w' Scotty Moore & D. J. Fontana track 1

None of these are the version you're referring to?
Otherwise where might I find it?
What was the promo you mentioned promoting?

There was an advance promo release titled 'Unmastered Selections From Good Rockin' Tonight' that contains an unedited 4:57 version of Paul's "That's All Right" from the Sun Records tribute from 2001. It's out there, though I've never heard it. If any kind soul has it and would care to share, please PM me as I have just about any other Macca to offer in return (including the new Sweet Thrash mixes!)...

  13. I agree with the OP. "We" need a new comp of entirely singles /non-album tracks remastered a lot better than "Wingspan" and hopefully omitting most of the unnecessary material from that compilation.

Wings made a lot of good singles in their day but only one good studio album. With all the remastering taking place of McCartney's back-catalogue currently , you might have hoped for a decent Wings period compilation by now that is expanded well beyond "Greatest Hits" (that ashamedly omitted "Listen To What The Man Said") but omits all the other superfluous material. I'm not buying Venus & Mars at any price just to get that one song.

I certainly wouldn't mind a nice comp covering Flowers in the Dirt through New. It's really ridiculous, when you think about it, how many legacy artists ignore the last 30 years of their career. It's not like many didn't fall in love with their music during the late 80s/early 90s, and after.

I don't think any of those even remotely hold a candle to Band On the Run, Live and Let Die, Jet, Uncle Albert, etc.

And, I'm aware Uncle Albert was listed as Paul McCartney, but it was during the Wings era.

Great job except I think you'd have to include Ebony and Ivory & No More Lonely Nights, so probably Tug of War and one of the other newer songs would have to go.

As many here have pointed out, McCartney had lots of hits in the 70s and early 80s and very little since.

Any hits-oriented compilation would very much cover the same ground that Wings Greatest Hits and All the Best have already covered.

As for a compilation filled with deeper album tracks, B-sides, there is probably no market for that anymore.
