    I can't imagine listening to clips from it, I just can't :)

Metallica are awesome on it. Lou is barking his thing, which on The Raven mostly got on my nerves, but on Lulu it just works for me, f(£ks with my brain, not much does these days and I miss it :)

I remember seeing the first album in the record racks and seeing print ads. Being a Glam Rock fan, I considered buying it several times. I never ended up feeling like actually doing it. Something about the cover made me from feel like I might not like it. Although I bought this and liked it:

But I heard some songs in the record store first.:)

Things that I have read in recent years (including your post, ralphb) make me curious about Jobriath now. If a budget release ever came out, I'd get it.

Well, I guess they were part of the scene he's dissing. I have a lot of time for Johnny Thunders but I hate the Dolls I must admit.

Yeah, I thought that clips could be giving me the wrong impression.

And it would complete my Lou Reed collection. :)

Plus it'll only cost you around a dollar :)

I've only listened to it twice, one disc at a time without pausing, very loud on headphones in the dark. But am looking forward to the third time whenever it comes!

I honestly think you put more thought and reflection into this post than Lou did with SCD.

That lyric is one of my all-time favorites. Deadpan Lou at his finest.

I think Sally Can't Dance is one of his best records. I think of it as a "guitar album."

With no guitar from Lou Reed.

Like Rock And Roll Animal without Velvet Underground songs, but with a singer and producer and session guys who really didn't give a crap.

Now that comparison really hurts. I think they did give a crap--Lou included--but the accomplishment is more of a black-light poster than, say, a Warhol. And I don't mean that as an insult.

I can understand being intrigued by Sally Can't Dance because Lou put so little effort into it and it's one small step up from putting his name and face on a random album made by someone pretending to be Lou Reed, but actually liking it? That's a head-scratcher.

I'll give you Kill Your Sons. That's a classic. And he does sound awake on Billy. Maybe he recognized Doug Yule. Everything else is sewage.

    I agree.

I picked that one at random (for illustration purposes). Probably should have thought of a more questionable one.

Then I'll proudly lay under the glass table and say, "Dip the toast, Lou!"

Somebody out there will get that one.

I love the creepy atmosphere of Baby Face, with Lou's vocal in your face and the dialogue in the background: 'Man, you don't split your stack of bread!' 'You can KEEP IT, just KEEP IT!!' :D

anyone know who does that dialogue? Never listened too closely, but I always thought it was "split your stash with your friends"... I also noticed it's voiced in a fairly fey way. Some ugly feelings put across in that song. I was just thinking of it the other day. It would great to hear a contemporary band cover it, if they could get it right. Would be hard to duplicate the careless vibe of the vocals, though.

I always heard "Man, you don't split your stash or your bread". But I never felt sure I was getting it right.

  23. Yes, SCD is a weak album. Well below standard.

On closer inspection it sounds like 'stash or bread' - ie gay lovers fighting over drugs and money, as the 2001 liner notes tells us.

I tried to Google it and ended up on Pintrest browsing through end tables.
