Hard for me to get excited about this. A new Sparks album, yes; with Franz Ferdinand, no.

Just got this from the Sparks Maeling List...

Sparks have teamed up with Franz Ferdinand to form a supergroup – FFS !!

10 years after the initial seed was planted by these two iconic bands to join forces in a bold, new creative endeavour, the fruits of this seemingly unlikely musical idea have finally been born. FFS. Franz Ferdinand and Sparks. The mutual admiration society between Alex Kapranos, Nick McCarthy, Bob Hardy, Paul Thomson, Ron Mael and Russell Mael has manifested itself in a striking new album. More details about the album will be revealed soon, but in the meantime FFS have teased us with a video called The Domino Effect [available on You Tube... see below]. FFS is upping the ante with the announcement that they will be performing live. FFS: Franz Ferdinand and Sparks together in concert. It’s true!

The video is way too short to say anything concrete, but it sounds promising.

Strangely it's promoted with these words in Germany: "Synthie-Pop der 80er trifft auf New-Wave der Gegenwart!" = "80s' Synthpop meets current New Wave!".
This raises worries when you prefer the "Kimono" era of the Sparks...

Personally, I never expected a regression to the mid-70s. If it's of the same quality as "Whomp that Sucker" and "Angst In my Pants", I'll be happy.

Sounds more like a lazy simplified catergorisation of each bands pedigree than a description of the new album per se.

Can anyone think of past examples of two bands uniting for a joint album?

Just listening to the first tracks released - Johnny Delusional, Collaborations Don't Work and P!ss Off - with a big wide grin on my face. From the people who brought you I Can't Believe That You Would Fall For All The Crap In This Song indeed!

I think I'm going to like this album!

I like what I've heard so far as well. Sounds like classic Island era Sparks...with a touch of "Whomp that Sucker".

While it's true you can't judge a record by its cover, I do like the album cover.

"Johnny Delusional" is excellent at first listen. But while "Collaborations Don't Work" has some pretty good sections musically, at times it sounds a bit forced. Same goes for the lyrics. Still looking forward to the album, though.

Am I the only one excited because of the Franz side? Regardless, this is looking promising. At the very least, the last FF was my favourite album of 2013

Back on topic: I'm a big Sparks fan, FF not so much. But my first impression is OK - better than I thought it would be. And I like that album cover as well.
