Been shopping stands and my speakers measure 7.5 wide by 10.5 deep by 11" high. If the speaker overhangs the top plate by 2 inches on each side is that acceptable?

    Sure, why not?

My speakers are hung over all the time. As long as they show up for work, I'm OK with it.

Seriously though my B&W Nautilus 105's sit on factory stands and they are bigger than the base of the stand. I'm sure that's fine.

My concern is stability. I don't want the wife hitting them and knocking them over. Unfortunately they are on either side of my closet, so she hangs my clothes up often after laundry.

You say speakers are 7.5 in wide with 2 in overhang. If that means the speaker stand top playe is only 3.5 in wide I would say the stand top is too narrow for stability.
If the stand top plate has mounting holes you could attach a wider plate to the stands. I did this with pieces of plexiglass once. Worked great.

sorry I should have been clear. It's the 10.5 depth that concerns me. The depth of the plate is only 6.5

In that case i wouldn't worry about it. If you use blu-tac or similar adhesive the stands would probably tip before the speakers come off.

As long as the overhang is the same at each edge there won't be a problem.

I can't believe this thread got this far without anyone asking whether you were going for a Stevenson or Baerwald alignment. We're way too helpful.

    1/4 inch.

    Zero is better.

Offered me sizes that came close: 6 x 9 and I believe the other was 5 x 8, but not custom. In fairness he may have been headed there next. I asked for a quote with the 6 x 9 since I thought that was fine.
    Nice guy to deal with.

Yes, you have to ask. The top plates on mine are 7.5" x 8.75".

I just got a email response back from Noel a couple of days ago, and he said he is too busy at the present to do custom top plates. His standard sizes only at this time.

Indeed it is, but I view this as a catch 22. I suspect part of the reason he has done well is the ability to grab custom sizes on what is considered a very good stand to begin with...yes? That option currently no longer exists.

He's done well because his stands are very good at a great price. I think the customization was an added bonus, but not the reason his stands are revered.
