The Mirage MM-6 subwoofer in our living room has ceased to function. It will not power on at all. Is there any way I can salvage it or am I hosed?

    Does it have a fuse?

Not on the outside. I could take it apart and see. Something inside of it rattles when I pick it up.

    Unplug it first!

My JBL Sub has had to be serviced twice during the seven years I've owned it. First time a coupla days after the one-year warranty expired:(, second time a coupla years later. Not a problem since I started running my towers full range, relieving the sub from pumping frequencies over 90(roughly; adjusted by ear) hz. Plus their(mine too) new home is very bass-friendly, and often the towers deliver plenty of bass, enough to turn the sub off.

Second on the fuse, probably internal.

There's a place here in Dallas that does speaker repair. Do you think it would be worth-while to give it a shot or should I just suck it up and buy a new sub?

I've been able to have mine successfully repaired for a reasonable amount of money twice and I still enjoy it. Unless the inner amp is totally fried it is repairable and the repair will last.

If you like it and it's not too used/old have a shot at repairing it. If budget allows and you feel like upgrading go for it.

    Replace the fuse.

    Otherwise, buy an SVS.

I'm taking the Mirage in today to have it looked at. If it's a simple thing like a fuse, then I'm in good shape. If not, I've already looked into SVS as an alternative.

    Which SVS are you considering?

Probably the SB-1000 since it's more in my price range. I might be able to talk the wife into 2000s, but I'm already over my budget for this month and next.

Both the SB1000 and 2000 are great options (I keep both here for demo units).

You looking at the Ash or Piano finish? The Piano is quite amazingly nice.

Im not sure of guarantee and such but a defective, in a weird way, large sub from KEF was handled with class and disregard for a very slight monetary loss when KEF gave me a sort of new sub to replace the slightly defective different model sub without returning the bad sub for many reasons concerning my health at the time.
They were great and maybe Mirage , which I had good dealings with-sort of- will do the same. Cant hurt.
    Good Luck, John M.

I have a pair of SB2000's. I can recommend them without hesitation. Plus SVS is a fantastic company to deal with.

But remember that just because a sub doesn't work doesn't mean it's "fried". There could be a number of issues. I'd tear it down and take a closer look.

I have an sb2000. I'll probably get another. One more recommendation.

The REL stuff is nice (as is the JL gear).

But the SVS SB options (sealed) are REALLY good at their price points for 2 channel ops. I'm running a pair of SB2000's in my main demo setup, and they are really quite amazing.
