Two of the examples listed also had other artists pick up on the theme. Roll With Me Henry/Dance With Me Henry aka "The Wallflower" was an "answer" song to Work With Me Annie.

And, of course, Peter Schilling's "Major Tom (Coming Home)" picks up on Space Oddity.

Another "answer" song is "Got A Job", the first hit for The Miracles and what would become Motown, which was in response to The Silhouettes' "Get A Job"

Don't know if it's a typo, but It's Hank Ballard and The Midnighters. Thee Midnighters was a Chicano garage rock band.

To make it more confusing, Work With Me Annie was originally credited to The Royals, but, it turned out there was another group operating under that name, so they became The Midnighters. Hank didn't get separate billing until later in their careers.

Surely the most famous example: Neil Young's Southern Man and Alabama, with Lynyrd Skynyrd's riposte Sweet Home Alabama.

How about when Rush and/or Dream Theater take a song from one album
and then expand upon its themes later on another album?

Not a sequel, but 10cc's I'm Mandy Fly Me starts with a snippet from Clockwork Creep, sorta continuing the airplane-disaster theme.

Joe Jackson did this with an album: Night & Day II after the original Night & Day - It was kind of an update/sequel to the first album, with some musical themes from the former included on the latter.

I'm leaving out songs from within a concept album, but, Ian Anderson just recently revisited Gerald Bostock on Thick As A Brick II.
