Any album that involves Bruford for the most part.
Williams ,Cobham and White all have a nice kit sound.

The snare on They Only Come Out At Night is great, especially on Hangin Around. Snappiest snare sound on any album ever.
Corky Laings piccolo on the old Mountain albums.
Dennis St Johns snare on Hot August Night.
John Barbettas snare on 4 Way Street and Thirty Seconds Over Winterland.
Jerry Edmontons snare on Steppenwolf 7

I like the snare on 38 Special - Chain Lightning. Great song, and great sound on that one.

The thing with snare drums, it's the 'heart' of the kit. Many, many drummers

Tony Williams on any number of mid-late '60s Miles Davis albums, recorded by Teo Macero. Upon first listen (way back when), his drum sound bothered me; it was so different from rock drum kit recordings where drums are compressed & processed individually, but it didn't take long to sink-in as a great-sounding kit played with a million tons of personality.

I'd also put forward Chris Cutler of Henry Cow, Art Bears & more. I saw him live about 15 years ago & he managed to milk THAT SOUND out of what I assumed was a rented touring drum kit (although maybe he travels with his favorite snare drum?).

(+1 to many of the names listed earlier, especially Copeland & Bonham!)

Ginger Baker on Train Time from Wheels Of Fire,he is more known for his tom and bass drum work but on this song he shows his magic touch
    on the snare.

Hal Blaine on a lot of things. His snare on "The Beat Goes On" is a favorite.

Add Ian Paice on "Machine Head", "Who Do We Think We Are" and "Made in Japan".
That's a Ludwig Supraphonic 400 for those that care about such things.

Matt Cameron's snare on anything from Soundgarden's Superunknown onwards. Badmotorfinger is a phenomenal album but I'm not a big fan of the gated snare.

He gives great snare, regardless of the context. Duran Duran's Notorious has great snare sounds.

It would be so interesting to see how Martin Hanett got that sound.
